RX 7900 XTX - Screen goes black for a few seconds when gaming

Hello All,

I have a bizarre issue when playing full screen games.

Mid-gameplay (can be at any point) I get a black screen for several seconds and then the game comes back.

This can happen at any point during gameplay, sometimes once in a while, other times several occurrences in a couple of hours.

I have 3 monitors and only the screen that the game is on is affected, and I've tried having the game on different screens and the issue still occurs so I don't think I had a faulty monitor.

I don't see any errors in my event log immediately after the issue occurs.

It's bizarre.

Is this a known issue?  I've seen other threads with people complaining about a black screen but they all report a crash of the gpu driver or the game or both, and none of these seem to be happening to me.

PC spec is as follows:

I'm using this drivers/software version:

I had the same problem on my old GPU 6700XT, I reverted to Adrenalin 24.5.1 and it fixed the problem.

I've been having issues for a few months with my ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon™ RX 7900 XT OC Edition 20GB. I joined AMD's Discord to discuss the problem, and I've been talking with someone, tracking my issue, and testing it on different PCs and monitors.
What monitor do you have? Is it an ultrawide? What brand is it?
Also, could you send me a screenshot of the 'Display' tab in the driver?

These issues aren't something AMD has acknowledged, but if I can gather several people with the same problem, it might get enough attention for them to look into it

It sounds like a common issue with the RX 7900 XTX. Try these steps:

  1. Update GPU Drivers: Ensure you have the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers. Use DDU to cleanly reinstall if needed.
  2. Adjust Settings: In AMD Adrenalin, try lowering clock speeds slightly or adjusting power limits under the Performance tab.
  3. Disable Enhanced Sync: Turn off Enhanced Sync in Adrenalin settings as it can cause black screens.
  4. Check PSU: Ensure your power supply is sufficient for the card (at least 800W recommended).
