Can't run 4k laptop panel at 120hz with rx vega 8

Hi, I have an acer nitro an515-45 laptop with a ryzen 7 5800h/radeon rx vega 8  , nvidia rtx 3070, 40gb ram, m.2 ssd etc

I upgraded the panel from a 1920 144hz to a 4k 120 hz but it has strange flicker issues at 120hz. It works ok at 60hz but on startup it will flicker/ghost until the refresh rate is changed & changed back to 60hz, then it stabilises.

My assumption was that it was the rx vega 8 causing this as the rtx 3070 can display up to 8k res...but is it possible its a cable bandwith issue? Really hoping there's something i've overlooked as i'm only semi-literate with graphics tweaking. I've been unable to find a way to force the laptop to only use the nvidia gpu - disabling the vega just forces win 11 to revert to generic drivers which are worse..

I have all the latest drivers installed - used DDU on both gpus when updating.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Did you try disabling the Vega in system BIOS?

What do you mean you "replaced the panel"? Do you mean you added a external monitor? Or replaced the actual laptop screen?

The assignment of which graphics card is used in a game is controlled by Microsoft.
