Can I use XDMA with my Radeon RX 480 and one of the latest generation cards?

Can I use XDMA with my current/older Radeon RX 480 (8GB, PCI 3.0, 256-bit GDDR5) and one of the latest generation cards?

I am looking to run RDR2 at 4K / Ultra / 60-120 fps.

When I bought the RX480 back in 2016, running two cards was called CrossFire X and used a bridge...now my very limited understanding is XDMA is able to use PCI 3.0 and no bridge is necessary.

Part two of my question - do you recommend the 2-card approach these days or am I still likely to encounter glitches and stuttering that was somewhat common in the past?

No, a 480 can be paired with another 480, 580. The newer gen cards use different driver coding.

Can't say what card/s will run RDR2 at what you want until some game performance reviews appear.

As for running Crossfire cards, it's a dying (little support) option.

Ryzen 5 5600x, B550 aorus pro ac, Hyper 212 black, 2 x 16gb F4-3600c16dgtzn kit, NM790 2TB, Nitro+RX6900XT, RM850, Win.10 Pro., LC27G55T..

That's sad about Crossfire but I'm sure you've saved me much time.  Thank you very much for the reply and pointing me in the right direction; cheers.
