Bad performance with rx 6600

Hello,

I just bought an rx 6600, i installed it, made a clean windows 11 installation, but the performance in games is really bad. For example in Minecraft i only get 30-40 fps, the same is true for gta 5 and battlefield 2042 wont even start. I’ve installed AMD Adrenalin and the latest drivers, but it didn’t help. Has anyone an idea? Also i didnt had these problems with my gtx 1050 ti.

spec:

Ryzen 7 2700x

radeon rx 6600

32gb 2933mhz ram

While in game have you checked GPU usage using the Adrenaline Metrics Overlay?

I just tried sodium in Minecraft and now i have around 200 fps. But still no fix for gta 5 and battlefield

I'm not familiar with sodium. What is that?

Are you using a display with variable refresh rate?

Since the switch to AMD from Nvidia did you use anything to completely uninstall Nvidia drivers?

Never mind you did a full Windows install. I missed that part.

Some games are quite demanding for PCIe interface throughput...
This could be the case if your motherboard doesn't have PCIe 4.0 support, that means RX 6600 will be functioning in PCIe 3.0 x8 mode, which has throughput equal to PCIe 2.0 x16.

I do remember about 7 years ago PCIe 2.0 x16 throughput was already not enough for some games (one of such prominent examples was NextCarGame/Wreckfest game).

Just checked out - Ryzen 7 2700X has PCIe version 3.0.
RX 6600 has only 8 PCIe lanes, that means it's currently working in PCIe 3.0 x8 mode.

Unfortunately, there's no simple way to prove this is exactly a 'bottleneck' in this case.
But i've seen plenty of exactly the same cases when people resolved it by switching to PCIe 4.0 or by replacing a GPU to RX 6700 or another one with 16 lanes PCIe port.

I’m probably gonna switch in maybe 3 years to a newer CPU and a motherboard, which supports pcie 4.0

Any updates? Having the same issue, with the same upgrade and i'm sure that PCIe 3.0 can't create that big of a bottleneck.

I tweaked a few settings in my games and now it works flawlessly

The best for 6000 series is with B550 with memory 3200-3600 or higher I think. When you check, many people get issue when their mobo below that.
