AMD GPU “picky” with HDMI cables

Sold my trusty 3090 that worked without any issues for the past 3y and switched back to my old 6700XT Sapphire Nitro+ for the time being.

I noticed I have random driver crashes where I just lose signal to my projector (1080p @120hz) and after a restart, windows can't recognize the driver installed. Forcing me to DDU and reinstall drivers again.

I'm installing “driver only” everything is in stock settings. CPU is 5600x with no OC. 16gb ram also in stock timings (instead of 3200mhz which also worked fine with 3090)

Kept having these random crashes till I finally switched an HDMI cable yesterday and now everything works as it should.

Has anyone else heard or encountered an issue like that?

The HDMI cable I replaced IS WORKING correctly with my Mac and worked fine with the 3090 for years.

Did you try the previous cable afterwards again? Perhaps simply removing/replugging the cable is what fixed it, not the different cable. This is an interesting issue, I don't think I've ever seen this happen.

What is the Make & Model of both of your HDMI cables that you were and are now using?

What are the lengths of the HDMI cables?

Possibly the one that was problematic may not be fully compatible with AMD driver or it isn't the correct HDMI cable for your 6700XT HDMI Port version.

For example some HDMI cables may not support 120hz displays as per this tech article: https://easytechsolver.com/do-all-hdmi-cables-support-4k-120hz/

Key Takeaways
Not all HDMI cables support 4K 120Hz. To ensure compatibility, look for HDMI cables that are labeled as “Ultra High Speed” or “HDMI 2.1.” These cables are designed to handle the higher bandwidth required for transmitting 4K at 120Hz. It’s important to check the specifications of the HDMI cable to ensure it meets the requirements for your specific setup.
