AMD Adrenalin 24.8.1 messed up HDR on Win 11

Good evening all,

I am running into an issue that I simply do not know how to fix. Upon the release of the previous AMD Adrenalin update (Whichever one was before 24.8.1), I noticed my HDR started acting very odd. It may be difficult to describe, but I am going to try my best.

The best way I can describe it is the colors were either too vivid and washed out pretty much everything (as if there was TOO much HDR, if that makes sense) and it made any sort of gameplay quite difficult. So, after a little bit of research and finding no results, I rolled back my drivers to the previous update where I encountered no issues, thinking it may have been a bug with the latest update.

However, after updating to 24.8.1 earlier today, I am encountering the same issue yet again. My HDR is far too vivid (or washed out, if that is the correct term) and I am back to square one. There have been occasional times where I have had to turn off then turn back on HDR upon starting my PC after updates in the past, but doing so usually fixed the issue. It no longer does.

I have went through and done the HDR Calibration stuff too and it did not make anything better either.

Is there anyone else encountering this issue with their HDR? Is this simply a bug in the driver updates that have yet to be fixed? While I can simply turn off HDR, I would rather not. Any suggestions or advice would be most beneficial.

Update: If it helps, I am running an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT with a Ryzen 7 5700X

TL;DR I updated my graphics card and now my HDR is messed up. Help?

Windows 11,

RX 6900 XT,

Dell s2721DGF,

all available updates installed.

Version 24.8.1 severely compressed the dynamic range being sent to my monitor, particularly on the high end (reduced max brightness) to the point whites were grey. In the past when it does this just toggling HDR on and off again in Windows is enough to get it back, but this time no amount of calibration or fiddling with settings seemed to correct it. Had to revert to an older driver which fixed the issue immediately.

While I appreciate that we have the same monitor and that we are having the same issue, this does not help me.

Every update since 24.6.1 (which is the update I have had to keep downgrading to) has broken my HDR and making my gameplay unbearable. There needs to be a fix for this or AMD needs to look into this. I never had any issues like this back when I was running Nvidia cards and I am seriously considering switching back.

I have had more issues with AMD cards with AMD pushing out bad updates then I ever did with Nvidia. No Google search has come up with a viable solution to fixing this issue either and I am growing tired of dealing with it.

I am unable to play certain games well when I have to downgrade so much in updates or I can't even play newly released games either. I know someone is going to tell me to check my monitors, and blah blah blah, but the thing is, I know the issue is Adrenalin because the problem fixes itself whenever I downgrade.

I am unable to keep my graphics card up to date due to this issue. Does ANYONE have any sort of solution to fix this? Or is this just going to be one of those problems that never gets fixed.

Last night, I updated to 24.10.1, hoping MAYBE the issue somehow got fixed but it just brought me right back to the same issues.

I suspect there may be conflicts between the HDR and FreeSync functions.
