VRAM Clock Speed always at max

I've seen many similar posts here and on other forums but none that have a real solution, and these go way back. All the way to the rx 580. Does AMD not care or is it a difficult issue to fix?

The problem is that when you have 2 monitors with each different refresh rates, the VRAM Clock Speed is stuck at max.

One of my monitors is 1440p and 170Hz, while the other is 1080p with 144Hz. I noticed that when I use both at their respective settings, the VRAM is just stuck at max, can't even under clock it.

This causes my GPU to draw 100W continuously, even in idle.. I don't think this is the intended way for it to work eh? Starts to look like a warranty (promise to work one way, but works the other way) issue to me at this point, which probably should have some legal consequences for AMD (I ain't no lawyer FYI)

I've tried a couple of things and heres a list.

  • Enable Dynamic refresh rate -> doesn't fix
  • Enable Variable refresh rate -> doesn't fix
  • Turn 1 screen off -> doesn't fix
  • Fully unplug 1 screen -> doesn't fix
  • Update everything to the newest driver setting -> doesn't fix
  • Test on Nobara Project (Linux) -> does fix (but who wants to use linux for main gaming rig?)
    Both refresh rates at 144hz and enable/disable HDR, enable VRR and DRR -> doesn't fix
  • Set both refresh rates at the same -> does lower VRAM to 909, but now it's stuck there.

The problem with the last is, why do I get a better monitor if I can not use it while my GPU behaves normally?

I got an XFX 7900XTX merc if anyone is wondering (had similar issue with 6700xt)

And I am on the newest Adrenaline version thats available for me: 25.3.1 (but this is also tested with prior versions)

Windows 11 Pro 24H2, newest build (as of 29-03-2025)

Update:

After enable the iGPU of the 9800x3d, the VRAM stays at 1538 MHz, with both monitors at 144Hz, with a TDP of 70-90W.

When I stress test the GPU, the VRAM stays at 1538, but when I change the refresh rate to 170 on my main monitor it goes to 2487.

So the refresh rate of the monitor can impact the stress test aswell, what the actual f*ck AMD.

We want support you and your products as opposed to Team Blue and Team Green, but holy f, it's getting harder and harder by day to recommend AMD GPU's.
