Screen tearing between high-refresh and low-refresh monitors

Hi all,

I've found a note in the release notes for the previous version of the Radeon drivers (21.8.2) that lists this known issue:

"Connecting two displays with large differences in resolution/refresh rates may cause flickering on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products."
https://community.amd.com/t5/knowledge-base/radeon-software-adrenalin-21-8-2/ta-p/486103

I'm finding this same issue, on the latest drivers, with an RX 6800 instead, not a Vega series. Whether on the lock screen, desktop, or in full-screen apps, screen tearing is frequent on the primary high-refresh monitor. Trying any permutation of Freesync enabled/disabled and Enhanced Sync enabled/disabled doesn't seem to make any difference.

The fix I have found is to drop the refresh rate on my main monitor from 144hz to 60 or 120 instead. However, obviously this isn't ideal. Does anyone have any workaround fixes without dropping the refresh rate, or any ETA for an official driver fix from AMD?

Relevant spec details:

  • OS: Windows 10 21H1
  • CPU: 5900X
  • GPU: RX 6800 (Powercolor Red Devil, non-XT)
  • Mainboard: MSI Tomahawk X570
  • Main monitor: ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD
  • Secondary monitor: some old cheap 1080p 60hz from BenQ
  • Radeon driver version: 21.8.2 (latest)

Cheers!
