RX7800XT (Powercolor Fighter 16GB) - 7.1 audio distorted and cuts out

7.1 audio output via HDMI and displayport is crackly, distorted and cuts off/goes mute, or doesn't play at all.

I need help fixing the audio when connecting my RX7800XT (Powercolor Fighter 16 gb) to the brand new atGames 4KP pinball machine. This machine has 3 screens which you can connect via HDMI - a 32" 4K playfield and 2 extra screens 1080p for the backglass and DMD. The 4K Playfield is where the 7.1 audio comes in via HDMI for the surround sound  feedback (SSF), a common setup in DIY and commercial virtual pinball machines. On this pinball machine their "OTG" mode switches to the HDMI inputs so you can use an external PC. While the OTG function is still in beta, the 7.1 audio works well for many others (as well as with alternate GPUs that I tested, see below).

My PC specs: DIY

GPU: PowerColor Fighter AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6

Mainboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi ProSeries Motherboard

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert Overclocking 10L DDR5 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) 6000MHz (PC5-48000) CL30

OS: Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

AMD Adrenalin 24.1.1 with autoinstalled drivers

I activate the 7.1 audio using the Windows Speaker configuration, but even on that 7.1 test screen, the channels each play a bit distorted from the 7800XT HDMI output.

I have tried AMD cleanup/reinstalling AMD drivers, disabling on motherboard audio, disabling iGPU on CPU (AMD Ryzen 7600X), Windows update, 3 different HDMI 2.1 cables, 4 different Display port to HDMI cables (all rated at 60 Hz 4K) all with no improvement.

If I re-initiate the OTG mode (switch from PC input to the atgames biult in system, then back again), I get the Windows "ba-ding" sound and audio plays (although distorted and phasing between speakers), but usable. After a few minutes, it gets glitchy then goes mute until OTG reinitiated.

Here is an example of the switching back and forth reactivating the muted audio:

Here is a demo of how distorted the sound is in game, then silence while game is still running:

Here is the same game running with proper audio using the integrated GPU (same hardware, same cables):

To check other hardware: using the integrated GPU (on the Ryzen 7600X CPU) as well as a new Nvidia 4060 Super card, the 7.1 audio works perfectly with clean crisp sound, no muting after leaving it for hours, using all the same cables and monitor input (4K playfield).

I'm about to RMA with card but it otherwise works well and it really looks like a software issue - that said, I can't figure out how to fix it.  I did try a suggestion to use the generic Windows HD audio driver but this just gives 2 channel audio which isn't what I want.

Suggestions?
