Hi, I have a completely new System here where I have trouble with the second monitor.
Specs:
Windows 10 / Linux Mint
ASRock B650 PG Lightning
GPU: 7900XT Sapphire
CPU: 7800X3D
G.Skill 4x16gb DDR5-6000 CL36
It is a completely new install with the current drivers for the BIOS and GPU
Now the monitors are old (24EN33 from LG) and only have DVI-D connections and are connected via a DP-DVI-D adapter.
Any combination of cables, monitor and adapter work on one DP connection one the GPU but none one the other.
The monitor on the non working port is working in the bios if it is the only one connected as wells as the start up screen at what appears the normal resolution (HD) in both OS.
On Linux after the boot up the second Monitor is found but only as a unknown Display and the resolution is limited to 640x480.
On Windows it is not detected at all.
Seeing that the DP connector works at the Startup makes me think it is a driver issue but I can't be sure.
Any help would be appreciated.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I doubt anyone really cares but AMD support basically refused any help.
I returned the Card, thankfully we have rather strong customer protection here.
All in all a disappointing experience and while I did plan to buy new Displays I can't let the return window lapse in the hope it will work then.
Doubly so when I see that the Support is wholly uninterested in helping but rather blame it on anything else.
did you try Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode yet? Remove driver and install an older version?
Took me a while to find the old drivers on the website but I tried out a few:
Adrenalin: 23.4.1
GPU Driver: 22.40.43.07-230326a-390319C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
Adrenalin: 23.3.2
GPU Driver: 22.40.43.01-230315a-389794C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
Adrenalin: 23.1.1
GPU Driver: 22.40.00.62-230106a-387257C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
Now I am back to the most recent
Adrenalin: 23.4.3
GPU Driver: 22.40.51.05-230420a-391252C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
Now there was one interesting observation doing this. If I remove the drivers using DDU and only plug one monitor into the DP that did not work Windows will recognize the monitor correctly.
Though it did not detect me plugging in the second after that. So only the one plugged in during boot was detected.
If both were plugged in during driver installation the monitor on the "left" DP was detected while the other one was disconnected and couldn't be found again.
Either way, after the installation I was back to the previous behaviour on all versions.
So yeah, I'm pretty sure it is a driver problem by now. The GPU is new and I guess plugging in such old monitors on this GPU isn't the average use case. Still it should work ...
I took a closer look at the Linux side. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work any better that it already was.
I put some system infos here but they look all good to me.
I cut off the inxi output but put a few lines at the end that show the display output when I switch the ports the monitors are connected to.
Would really appreaciate if somebody can tell me if they have a similiar setup and whether or not it works.
