I've just joined team Red, picking up a new 6950XT to replace my RTX2060S, but it seems AMD have no reliable drivers for it ...
Mostly I used the computer for video editing and playing VR - I'd have gone with the 7900 were it not for the problems people have with VR
However upon installing the GPU and putting the latest Adrenalin drivers in I found the VR played fine, although when I tried to exit out of the gamemode I was in and back to main menu, the computer black screened and all the fans in the systems suddenly ramped up to full - yet temps up to that point, whilst playing were all fine.
I then tried video editing with it and found in Premiere pro that if I tried video playback at full quality, the computer would again instantly black screen - it played back fine at 1/2 quality, but then when I attempted to export the video it would again instantly blackscreen when the rendering began
I tried switching to the Pro drivers to see if that fixed the issue but it didn't - switched back to the old 2060 and everything worked fine
Reinstalled the 6950XT but with older 22.10.2 drivers and found all Premiere pro issues were all fixed, but when I tried using VR, the Quest software wasn't happy with the drivers stating they were outdated. So I moved up to the next set of 22.10.3 drivers which was enough to keep Quest happy enough to start but the computer once again crashed the moment I tried to start up the VR headset
Having read through the forum there seems to be many people having issues of crashes but someone said they've found stability with 23.2.1, which I've tried but once again I've got Premiere pro crashing at full quality playback and whilst VR was able to play fine it did crash when I tried to make some in-game graphics changes
I've been monitoring Adrenalin whilst all this has been going on and there was no noticeable spikes of concern - temps, fans, utilisation were all low, and were running happily higher when the VR would work.
Can anybody recommend a driver setup that could allow stable use of Premiere Pro & VR gaming? It's a beast of a card but if I can't get it to be reliably stable then I may have to bite the bullet and switch back to green.
