Radeon driver locks up when trying to set fan speed in global wattman

Hi

I've recently built a new PC:

3700x

16 gig ddr4

rx5700xt

x570 mobo

AMD driver 19.8.1

When I try and change the GPU fan speed in global wattman the driver locks up.

any ideas?
