New Driver Uninstalled AMD Software

Was messing around in AMD Software with some of my gpu and cpu settings. I noticed there was a new driver for my 6800xt, 22.5.2, and decided to install it. When I finished downloading it, my screen went black for about 10 minutes, until I force restarted my computer. Then the AMD Software app was gone after I logged in, and the screen flickered every few minutes until I downloaded the app again. Not sure if this is just a one off thing or is common, but I feel like it needs to be put out there if it hasn't been discussed before.

That is because you installed the beta (optional) driver (22.5.2) and not the WHQL version (22.5.1) and Windows "updated/changed/installed the latest WHQL driver. This driver does not include the control panel. Drivers only.

You can prevent Microsoft/Windows Update doing that:

Here is a way to prevent Windows Update installing any drivers. This does not effect the security, quality,  patch, or any other type update...they are presented as normal.

In short...you don't have to worry about WU installing (changing) AMD graphics drivers.

This is done through group policy:

Type gpedit in the search bar...follow > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

On the right side scroll to Do not include drivers with Windows Update policy and double click it. Select the ENABLED option.

Click 'Apply' then OK.

Reboot your computer.
