MONITORS TURN OFF 6700 XT

Hi everyone!

I've been dealing with a frustrating issue for the past few months, and no matter what I try, I can't seem to fix it.

The problem:
Randomly, both of my monitors lose signal and go black, but my GPU (6700 XT) is still running (fans spinning). The only way to fix this is to hard reboot, then manually enable my GPU drivers in Device Manager, and reboot again to get AMD Adrenaline and the drivers working properly.

This happens unpredictably—whether I'm alt-tabbing from CS2, watching a YouTube video, or viewing a Discord screen share. It's not a GPU crash due to high load, as I’ve run multiple stress tests without any crashes.

Things I've tried (but the issue persists):

  • Disabled hardware acceleration in Discord and Chrome
  • Swapped PSU cables connected to the GPU (PSU is solid, no issues)
  • Changed RAM slots, even tested with one stick at a time
  • Reinstalled Windows 11 (twice)
  • Updated BIOS
  • Tried different undervolt settings
  • Downgraded drivers and even tested preview Adrenalin versions (always using DDU for clean installs)
  • Checked Event Viewer, but the only error is a Kernel Critical error (since I have to force reboot)
  • Pressing Ctrl+Shift+Win+B while screens are black does trigger a beep sound (like plugging in a device), but the displays don’t come back—though this seems to skip the step where I need to re-enable the GPU in Device Manager after rebooting.

PC Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D (temps are fine)
  • GPU: Radeon RX 6700 XT PULSE
  • RAM: 2x16GB Corsair LPX 3200MHz (XMP enabled)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M DS3H
  • PSU: Seasonic G-12 GC 850W 80+ Gold
  • Storage:
    • NVMe: Samsung 980 1TB
    • SSD: Kingston A400 960GB
    • HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
  • Monitors:
    • Main: Gigabyte M27Q
    • Secondary: BenQ XL2411P

Any ideas on what else I could try? I ran out of ideas and would really appreciate any help!

This used to happen to me over a year ago, this is what I did:

1. Disable hardware acceleration (which you already did)

2. Disable Image Sharpening in the AMD Software

3. Disable Enhanced Sync in the AMD Software

4. If it still continues (after the previous steps) try rolling back to the exact driver you were using before it started

Thank you for replying.
I'll try the second and third solutions and hope that i never get that stupid crash again, its so random that i cant simulate it, so it will take some time so see if its fixed.
I also updated AMD ADRENALINE to 25.3.1 (i already tried so many driver versions).

I have the exact same problem, same CPU, same PULSE 6700 XT and also a 850W 80+ Gold Seasonic but mine is the Focus model.

Ever since I installed 25.3.1 it started to happen to me, reseated the GPU, the CPU, the PSU cables, tried event viewer, dump files, OCCT stress test on VRAM, stress test on all the system, furmark on the GPU, nothing was wrong except that I found one faulty RAM stick with memtest86+, took it out the other passed with flying colors.

All the tests run OK without causing the issue, every stress test I run doesn't cause the black screens.

Tomorrow I'll have the new set coming so I thought, that was it, found the culprit.
Today on a clean install 1 day old and without the faulty ram stick, same problem again.

The thing is, the audio continues, Discord continues to work and I can hear and talk to people, I hear the game running on the background, but... no picture, only black monitors without picture like they went to sleep.

I restored to previous system clones, with different windows versions, both 23h2 and 24h2, both with 24.12.1 and both known to be working without issues at the time of cloning them.

I also did downgraded drivers (always using DDU for clean installs) like you did, did BIOS re install although it was already updated.

I've also tried disconnecting a third monitor(TV) I have connected through HDMI to check if it was a problem with 2x DP and 1x HDMI although I didn't have problems with it for months.

I also reinstalled a clean WIN11 24h2, only GPU drivers and normal devices drivers, didn't even install the chipset drivers in the clean windows install, and in all of them I'm having the exact same problem you are having for the last at least 6 days. Sometimes it just won't start 3D with Discord on few seconds black screen, sometimes it can go over 5h without doing it.... really strange. I've also disabled hardware acceleration on it.

Things I can think of, trying other PSU, trying new monitor DP cables, try other GPU but The other one I have isn't even team red so it wouldn't totally rule out being software problem and not an actual hardware GPU problem, it would if other team red GPU would run fine in this system with the same drivers, but unfortunately I don't have another team red GPU on hand.

I too also am running out of ideas and since you have the exact same problem, with a very very similar setup, I decided to share so it will bump it and I can follow it more easily in case someone finds a solution.

I've always used image sharpening without an issue before, but I can try without it.

I've never used Enhanced Sync, but both my monitors have freesync.
