Laptop Chipset Drivers Causing USB Connection Issues

Hey, I want to know if it is possible to downgrade an AMD chipset driver? My experience with computers is limited, so I apologize in advance if I mention anything that sounds obvious.

The reason why I want to downgrade is because I updated my chipset driver directly from AMD's website rather than my laptop manufacturer's website, and I want to downgrade to my laptop vendor's version. I own an Acer Aspire 5 (a515-46) laptop and recently Windows 11 does not recognize my USB external hard drive. After some research and troubleshooting, I came to the conclusion that my chipset drivers were out of date or incompatible with other drivers installed.

On Acer's support page for my model, the driver package is zipped in a folder of IO and MSI files and I did not know how to install them.

I opted to use AMD's auto detect and install tool and for sometime, the problem was resolved. However after a few hours, the problem persisted again and now I'm at a loss on what to do next. I know that the USB external hard drive works perfectly on other computers, but it is unrecognizable on mines.

Went to Acer Support to the download page for your laptop: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support?search=Aspire%20A515-46&filter=global_download&suggest=a515-46;0

Downloaded the Acer AMD Chip set Driver package. Unzipped it and clicked on the file that ends in .MSI. to get the installer to start installing.

Download this Microsoft Install/Uninstall Tool (Microsoft Install/Uninstall Tool ) . Run it and uninstall all Non-Graphics AMD drivers.

Then go to Windows Settings and see if there is any AMD CHIP Set entry. if there is uninstall it also.

Download Acer OEM AMD Chipset and run it and see if it installs successfully or not.

Where can I download the Acer OEM AMD Chipset? If you're referring to the drivers listed for my laptop model, how can I install MSI or IO files?

Google ACER SUPPORT and enter your Laptop Serial Number or Part Number and it will direct you to the download page for your laptop.

Ok I understand. The download page shows a list of files for the driver as shown in the image in the original post. There isn't a setup.exe file included in it, so I'm not sure what to do at this point.

A file with an .msi extension will run just like any .exe extension.  Just click on it and it should start.

If your usb is 3.0 or higher chances are that it is 3rd party and not AMD.  That is why you need to get your motherboard drivers for that model from Acer and install them.
