Installing latest Linux Radeon drivers with kernel 5.15 fails on Ubuntu

When I try to install the latest amdgpu driver (Radeon™ Software for Linux® 22.20) it errors out when attempting to build amdgpu-dkms. The error in the DKMS crash log is identical that reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/linux/+bug/1996740.

error: incompatible types when assigning to type ‘struct percpu_ref’ from type ‘struct percpu_ref *’

I see this same error for kernel 5.15 in 20.04.5 (HWE) and 22.04.

If anybody else has seen this and knows a workaround please share. Or open to any workaround suggestions for 22.04 in particular (as I was able to somewhat workaround issue in 20.04 by disabling HWE).
