I just did a fresh install of Windows on my computer. I had problems with my old version crashing and having all sorts of unexplained issues, I figured a new install wouldn't be a problem. And so I went through the process of downloading all my drivers and stuff, and everything seems to work out. I can run all my old games, even VR games, without worrying about my computer doing something unexpected.
But specifically, most modern games that would work with the AMD overlay have some sort of problem. VR hasn't been an issue, and I assume it's because the drivers are different for VR hardware. Old and low-complexity games aren't an issue, probably because they don't use fancy modern techniques to run better. But when I run, say, Halo Infinite, the game will not work at all.
What's interesting is that, for every game I've tried this on, there is a different issue. One game won't start at all, one game will start but will freeze on a black screen. One game will crash immediately after it starts, one game will run perfectly fine but with no sound. The one modern game that doesn't seem to have any problems is Doom Eternal, I have no idea if that's significant in any way.
But regardless of which game I run, be it a modern game with a problem or a game I can run, I have never, ever, been able to open the AMD overlay. The games always prompt me to press ALT + R to open the overly, and it never works. It does absolutely nothing. Do note that I have run every single one of these games on this PC, with this exact hardware and (I believe) this exact version of AMD Adrenalin installed. There are no fundamental incompatibilities between my PC and my games. I have tried to reinstall the drivers several times, and it has no effect.
