Games like Minecraft or Project Zomboid do not work in Borderless or Exclusive Fullscreen mode. I am forced to play the game in windowed mode, which is terrible.
The games crash, exhibit black screens, or simply don't show up on the screen, displaying the desktop. I am using the latest drivers (25.3.1) available at this time.
Rolling back the driver to version 24.3.1 fixes this issue, so something went wrong during the driver development for the OpenGL API from 2024 to now.
The issue is easily reproducible: just launch Minecraft or Project Zomboid (the games I have tested, but this most likely occurs in any OpenGL game) and try to set the game to Fullscreen, either Borderless or Exclusive.
My PC Specs are:
RX 6800 XT (Driver 25.3.1)
Ryzen 7 5700X3D
32 GB RAM CL 16 3600 MT/s
Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (Latest March 2025 updates)
B450M Asrock Steel Legend (Chipset Driver 7.2.13.148 | BIOS 10.31)
1TB NVMe SSD
I can provide any other information if needed, and I have already reported this issue using the AMD Bug Report tool. I would ask other users to do the same and, if encountering similar problems, to add them in the replies to this topic.
@santana1305 Can you tell me the monitor model, is it a TV with 3D mode or a monitor with overclocking turned on?
Hello, baozhlu!
First off, thank you for your reply! 🙂
Regarding your question, here is how my monitors are set up:
1080p 144Hz IPS Panel (Main monitor, DisplayPort)
1080p 75Hz IPS Panel (Secondary monitor, HDMI)
Both are running at their default refresh rates, and I haven’t changed or overclocked anything. They don’t have 3D support, and I’m not using a TV in this setup.
I’ve conducted some tests here, which include:
Setting both monitors to 60Hz and restarting the system
Unplugging the secondary monitor, setting the main monitor to 60Hz, and restarting the system
None of these solutions worked. I’d like to reiterate that this issue did not occur with previous drivers (e.g., 24.3.1). If you need any additional information, I’m happy to provide it.
Have a great day!
You forgot the Monitor make & models.
Sorry, just added that in the reply to baozhlu
Hi, santana1305
(1) tell me your two Monitor make & models
(2) Try only connecting your secondary monitor, tell me the result
Adding here: I plugged my computer into my TCL C755 television, which is VRR-capable, and the games work correctly in fullscreen.
I believe that's it—on monitors that are Adaptive Sync-compatible (and most likely using DisplayPort), the crash happens.
I'll try later this weekend to connect my main monitor through HDMI instead of DisplayPort to verify if DisplayPort is causing the issue or if it's just using an Adaptive Sync-compatible monitor that's the problem.
Hello, Baozhlu!
Sorry about the delay regarding the requested information.
Main Monitor: Duex DX240ZG
Secondary Monitor: Acer EK241Y
Regarding only connecting my secondary monitor, i just tested it and it worked — could this mean there's an issue when using a dual monitor setup, where one monitor is connected through DisplayPort and the other through HDMI? My GPU model is an RX 6800XT Red Devil, by the way.
Thanks in advance.
Adding here that updating to 25.3.2 did not fix the issue.
It's also worth investigating your monitor cables. Using different ones might identify a defective cable.
Hello, BigAl01!
First off, thank you for joining the discussion!
It's a good guess about the cables, but I don't think that's the issue. I use a high-quality DisplayPort cable from UGREEN, and this problem didn't occur with a previous driver installation (I tried rolling back to version 24.3.1, and the issue doesn't occur in that version).
My main monitor shows up on AMD Adrenalin as Adaptive Sync Compatible, and my secondary monitor shows as VRR. Could that help with some diagnostics? Turning those off does no fix it tho.
Well, it's likely an issue with the latest Adrenalin driver update. Have you searched forums for your Minecraft or Project Zomboid games to see if others are experiencing the same problems?
@santana1305 I test on an Adaptive Sync Compatible monitor, games work fine in fullscreen mode.
so it should not be "Adaptive Sync" issue. can you change any suspicious or special configurations of your "Main Monitor: Duex DX240ZG" to help us locate this issue.
Hello, Baozhlu!
I tried changing the connection of my main monitor to HDMI and not using the secondary monitor, but it still didn't work 😞
When I changed the connection to HDMI, it started showing up as "VRR" on Adrenalin instead of "Adaptive Sync Compatible." I'm still looking for other potential causes of the problem. I'll let you know if I find anything.
Hi, santana1305, have any progress in "looking for other potential causes of the problem"?
At the same time, I suggest you verify the Adrenalin 24.5.1 driver and 24.6.1 driver, and tell me the results, which will help me locate this issue.
