Hi. Running all the 24.xx.xx drivers of AMD adrenaline is causing framedrops for me on my XFX 7800XT videocard.
The framedrops occur when VSYNC is enabled and i start to move my mouse cursor in the main menu of certain games in Exclusive Window or Full Screen mode.
The framerate of 60fps drops to 53fps when moving the mouse rapidly through the screen.
Reverting back to the 23.12.1 driver fixes all these issues for me. And stops the screen tearing.
Tested and affected games are DX11 or Vulkan based. DX12 games have less problems under these drivers.
In Vulkan:
- Valheim
In DX 11:
- Age of empires 4 anniversary edition
- Age of empires 3 Definitive edition
- Rusted Warfare
- Counter Strike 2
Strangely when running Resident Evil 4 remake in DX12 i cannot reproduce the issue, it stays stable at 1080p/60fps.
What i did to rule out any other problems:
- Checked the mouse report time and set it to the lowest setting 125.
- Booted up Lubuntu on the same machine and ran Rusted Warfare native via steam to see if it's a hardware issue,
but it ran perfectly with the open source drivers.
- Updated the chipset drivers of the motherboard
- Updated the bios to the latest version
- Checked all write permissions within windows 11
- File integrity check of windows 11 and all the Steam games.
- Ran other launchers like Epic Games Store, Ubi Connect.
- Checked background tasks and services.
- Disconnected and uninstalled all hardware connected to the USB ports and the USB controller drivers.
- Several bios tweaks, but nothing helped until i revert back to the older 23.12.1 driver.
My system:
Windows 11 PRO Dutch ( up to date)
AMD 7800x3D (Stock speed)
XFX Speedster Merc 7800XT
32GB DDR5 Kingston Fury
Motherboard Asus b650 Plus ( latest bios and chipset driver)
WD NVME for windows (C:)
Corsair NVME SSD for Games (G:)
Logitech G502 mouse
Valve index connected to DP
Behringer UCA202 external USB soundcard
Fractal Pop air XL case
I submitted the bug in march this year, through AMD software, got no response, but the problem still persists in the latest build. Hopefully somebody will pick this up? Thanks.
