Brand new ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2023) - G733PZ (Ryzen 9 7945HX + NVidia 4080 12GB...)
The desktop screen shows random flickering in normal office usage when in APU mode.
This is a known driver issue experienced by ALL ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2023) owners. Reproducible with current Adrenalin 23.4.1 drivers and even using previous versions like 23.3.2...
The flickering itself is very fast (this is not the so called "black screen" issue), like screen blinking for 0.1sec. Sometimes it looks like only the middle half of the screen is affected.
Please AMD, fix this irritating bug.
Forgot to mention screen is 240Hz 2560x1440 (Freesync/G-Sync).
Obviously already tried to disable HW acceleration in Edge browser etc. with no avail. I can't adjust APU clocks through Adrenalin panel (missing option like you have on the AMD dGPUs) to try a workaround.
Only AMD Adrenalin fixed drivers can save us!

Flickering at desktop (browsers or just explorer usage...) still unfixed for APU 610M.
same thing for my 6650xt. asked support about this, hopefully theyll give a useful answer. ill try to remember to update here, if not feel free to reply to remind me.
Re: Issues with new laptop Strix Scar 17 2023 (R9 ... - Pagina 5 - Republic of Gamers Forum - 921478... see also here: try to disable (as a temp workaround) Memory Integrity in Windows 11 and see if this works... Of course we need an official AMD Adrenalin final fix, not a manual workaround.
Im having the same issue as you.
My screen has random blinking or flickering while on my intergated gpu 610m. This is a known issues for this device and people also discovered it as an AMD graphic driver issue. I'm surprised that the bug is not fixed with new updates even many have reported to either ASUS and AMD. Can AMD please raise this issue so we can have it fixed and let us enjoy asus's product without compromises?
People have been discussing plenty of issues with this device and most of them are software based. Here is the link:

My main concern is issue number 4 from the post:
[COMMON] Random internal screen (desktop usage) fast-flickerings (0.1sec, very fast almost unnoticeable, mostrly in the upper portion of the screen)... looks like AMD iGPU unstable frequency (?). This seems a well known AMD iGPU issue reported in many forums with previous AMD CPU models. Waiting for AMD Adrenalin driver/BIOS updates hoping for a fix...
Yep... embarrassing we have no support from AMD to their own 610M APU...
I am still experiencing this issue
CPU: Ryzen 7940HX, Radeon 610M
The screen blinks for less than 0.1 sec as you mentioned. And this is quite annoying and shouldn't happen. AMD should definitely look into this.
The blink even for 0.1sec significantly poses a bad user experience for the money that have spent on the machine.
Hi folks!
Of course I have the same standard problem with the ASUS laptop matrix - a flickering screen. It's getting old and boring with this equipment.
A month ago I bought an Asus ROG Strix 17'3 G713PI laptop. GPU: GeForce 4070RTX, CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX and AMD Radeon 610M graphics - and this AMD graphics is the problem in my opinion.
On the ROG ASUS forum I have already found topics of people who reported problems with this flickering screen on the same equipment. But people there are probably helpless?
The screen flickers happen quite chaotically, about 01 seconds. But not non-stop. Regardless of whether I work with applications or with open search engine pages.
It can even stop movies played in search engine windows for a moment.
I have tried a lot of ideas sent on forums and on the web or by Microsoft on how to deal with it. Without success.
The most important thing - of course, when I switch the monitor support to the GeForce 4070RTX card, this whole problem is gone.
Has AMD not improved anything in this matter so far?
Because it seems that this is a permanent problem of their graphics driver. There is nothing else to fix it. Has it been two years or longer that people have been complaining about this? Has anyone from AMD support or service ever officially answered anything about this to people asking questions?
No support, at all. Not even a generic reply, never. Totally ignored issue.
It looks bad. There is a conflict between the device manufacturer and the manufacturer of the component and software for it. One will now blame the other. I don't know what AMD is waiting for? Is this some kind of testing of the causes of the fault on their part? Or are they waiting for users to test everything and do the work for them? That seems unlikely. NVIDIA regularly updates drivers without a problem. I will try to send some private messages myself asking for explanations, but I don't promise much. I came across some instructions on the web about updating drivers, which suggest that "you browse your computer for drivers and then choose from a list of those available on your computer." I actually have 2 drivers for AMD 610M on that list, but which one is which? One is probably older? Should I go back to the older driver? And what should I do next? Will it do any good?
And by the way, our ASUS laptop models are probably the same? - I have a question, have you had a strange problem with USB C outputs? After connecting pendrives to them, the laptop disconnects them and connects them immediately randomly in various situations, sometimes you can force it by turning on some application? It's irritating and only applies to USB C.

Yes, unfortunately my ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2023) - G733PZ also had USB C disconnection issues. It's a frequent issue in power-hungry gaming laptops and only a motherboard swap can usually fix it (RMA). It happened to me also with ROG GL703GS: RMA fixed it.
Checking USB ports under "heavy load" is an important test to do for new gaming laptops to exclude this frequent problem (I've read similar issue also on MSI and other brands forums anyway...), often underestimated by users who discover this kind of problem too late.
In the end, due to too much IGNORED problems (started also a thread on ASUS forums, see my post above) with G733PZ I returned it as I was almost sure ASUS would not have done anything. As far as I can see, unfortunately I was right.
OMG! I'm reading this now. https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/rog-strix-series/issues-with-new-laptop-strix-scar-17-2023-r9-7945hx-4...
There are 69 pages.
ASUS should pay You for this work. It's very detailed, I don't even understand some of it
Maybe I don't have that many faults because I haven't tested everything yet, or maybe my BIOS is already 334 and some of the problems have been fixed.
However, the screen still flashes sometimes.
I suspect that ASUS and AMD know well that there is an alternative to simple switching the monitor support to GeForce cards, the problem seems to disappear, so they don't want to do anything about it. They've already counted everything in the costs, including customer returns.
I also started my own thread on their ASUS forum about it, but despite over 140 views, no one has replied and a month has passed so it's locked with a red padlock and no one will write anything anymore. I wrote there privately to one of those Customer Service Agents, but no response.
I think I foud bypasse for the USB C problem. In the device manager I changed the power management settings for USB-connected pendrives. And they stopped disconnecting. I will do other tests with my IT friend.
In general, how long did you use this laptop before you returned it? Did you send it to the service in the meantime? Did you simply return it to the store within 2 years of the warranty? The store didn't cause any problems? I am asking because I need to be ready in the future if nothing changes for such a possible step. I may have to deal with this through our consumer advocate. I have used his help several times already. But I feel sorry for this equipment because otherwise it's really nice.
My return window was just 15 days for a "no question refund" since it had clearly HW issues (documented them also in video). I tested it for 14days struggling between return or waiting in the hope they were just software issues that could have been solved one day...
In the end I was sure there was something ALSO at HW level (sudden reboots like that can't be just software: no BSOD or Windows report, just a power supply interruption or CPU over/undercurrent). I did well: as of today those major issues have never been fixed by ASUS or AMD.
OK. I have new information, because something has changed with this display flickering.
It started on Jan 22 after the windows update to my Win 11. There were 3 updates (KB5050021), (KB5049624), (KB890830)
I was surprised, because after that I almost stopped noticing these flickers at all. It was strange.
I had previously decided that I would install new graphics drivers and perform tests with my IT friend,I didn't want to mess anything up.But due to what happened, I decided to risk it now.
I made an extra system restore point just in case.
Before anything else, I tried something with the integrated PnP monitor drivers - uninstalling, reinstalling the old one, but in my opinion it had no effect at all.
Since purchasing the laptop, I had driver version 31.0.14038.8002 for this Radeon 610M graphic. Asus had 2 versions dedicated to 610M on its website - V31.0.14038.8002 and V32.0.11002.41,so one was mine and the other one was from June 2024.
But on Jan 25 I decided to download the Auto-Detect and Install Driver Updates tool from the AMD website.
After running this, the installer showed me "Adrenalin 24.12.1" as recommended. I chose Full Install and skipped AMD Privacy View installation and skipped about 6 additional "AMD chipset drivers" marked on the installer panel - I don't know if I did it right?
After installation, the driver version for Radeon 610M in the device manager changed to 32.0.12033.1030, which is from November 2024.
After that, everything was fine except that the screen brightness slider didn't work. I had the brightness set permanently despite moving the slider.
But I also didn't update the drivers for GeForce RTX 4070 from the begining. I had driver version 31.0.15.4680. I thought there might be some connection? I downloaded the December 2024 version of Game Redy WQHL 566.36 and installed it, now I have 32.0.15.6636.
The brightness change slider started working normally after that.
Since then, I've been observing how the laptop's display works (display still on 610M graphics) and I noticed that these screen flashes happen, but now only when the display is set to 240Hz and usually with the power supply cable disconnected, when the laptop running on battery.
And these are no longer flashes of the entire monitor.
At 240 Hz with a connected cable, they are very delicate and rare.
Now these are just flashes on the top of open window - Chrome, or apps usually, just at the top of the display.
Sometimes the video being played in Chrome window froze for a second, but 2 hours movie online opened on full screen I watched yesterdy was perfectly good.
Maybe something flashed when I moved the window slider? I'm not sure?
With the power supply connected or disconnected and display set to 60Hz I didn't notice any flickering at all.
So it's different now.
I test it by opening many windows of different apps on the display, system tools and search engines and in different power modes. I wonder if this flashing has any connection with the power supply? Refresh rate 240Hz now is problem.
Yesterday, the monitor brightness change slider didn't work again, but a new update package for Win 11 this month came, with some Realtek drivers - after installation the slider work normal.
Did you also get to this state when testing it yourself? Because I didn't follow your entire thread on the ASUS forum?
Your problem was that it was 2023 and there were no new versions of the drivers that I have here.
I wonder what else can be done? Maybe you remember some situations when it was possible to force these display flashes, so I could check it out?
I have another question about the contrast of this matrix. It's probably about the depth of black when playing? However, movies played in the search engine become shady/indistnct if the scenes are darker, the same with photos of black objects on the web. Did you notice that? Can it be calibrated, but without using additional external equipment? Just from the laptop settings?
