I have an AMD HD8570D Display Adapter with Driver 15.201.1151.1008. I have also run with 15.200.1062.1004 (18.2.1)
I have a Windows10 system that has been rebooting intermittently on its own since a Windows update Windows 10 Version 1709. I have been in touch with Microsoft and they have reviewed the system dumps and indicate it is related to the Display driver:
” Thank you for keeping us posted. Based on the logs that you've just sent us, "0x0_dxgkrnl!dxgdbgtakesnapshot" is the faulting module which translates to your computer's display drivers. We advise that you download the latest drivers from your OEM website and install them manually on your computer.”
After their advice to update to the latest driver and latest OS Version and build, I still have unrequested reboots. Microsoft now suggest I update the firmware and another person in the thread has had luck with the updated firmware.
Do you have a procedure or a link to a procedure on how to update the firmware?
Regards,
Tom
Is this a Laptop? Do you have a CPU or APU? HD8570D GPU is considered to be Legacy (old and Non-Supported). The last supported AMD driver is from here : https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows+10+-+64 . These are the ONLY two GPU drivers that you can install. No others will work that are newer than these two. If you have a Laptop with a APU than you need to input the information here to find the correct driver : Download Drivers . Most likely it will send to the same download as the first link.
By updating the Firmware are you talking about the BIOS? If it is, Post the Exact Make & Model of your laptop or Desktop Motherboard and I will locate the latest BIOS for you and post it here. The Manufacturer gives instructions on how to update your laptop or Motherboard.
Hello Elstaci,Leizl is from Microsoft and firmware is the term she used, but if BIOS is it, I'm all for it. Is this the info you need to direct me?Regards,Tom

The driver has been updated (2 different Versions) with no improvement.

Please first post the following complete information concerning your Desktop: Make & Model of Motherboard, PSU, APU, Separate Graphics card installed if any, Current Windows Version. If this is a entire computer that you purchased post the Make & Model. Some information you have already posted but repost anyway. You can follow the AMD Forum form here: INFORMATION REQUIRED WHEN POSTING A QUESTION
When the Computer Reboots does it BSOD with an error message or does it just reboot on it own without warning? Sometimes a bad or weak PSU or Overheating or incompatible driver can cause the computer to reboot without warning. When it Boots up you should generally hear one BEEP and continue to load Windows. If it BEEPS more than once while booting up indicates a hardware problem in your computer. You should check the Temperatures of your APU and Graphics Card, if one is installed, once it boots up. Also for just to be sure your Windows is not corrupted, run SFC /scannow in a elevated Command Prompt.
It seems like she was not talking about the BIOS but maybe some firmware in your motherboard. This is the last supported APU drivers for your motherboard: Legacy .You had the correct driver installed until you tried to install the 18.x.x driver. You have a AMD Unsupported APU/Graphics card where AMD Support haven't updated the Driver since 2016.
Download the Full set of the Legacy Driver from the link above. Update Windows 10 fully via Windows Update. Delete from the Root directory C:\AMD folder. Disable the internet from your computer (disable WiFI or disconnect the Ethernet cable). Use Windows Uninstall to uninstall all AMD Software and Graphics drivers. Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and run it in safe mode. Have DDU display AMD to remove all traces of the current driver on your computer. Reboot.
When you reach the Desktop, Reinstall the downloaded Full set of AMD Drivers and reconnect the computer back on to the internet. Reboot and see if everything is working again. If not then read further down the post.
once I get the motherboard or Computer system Make & Model that you have, I will google it and see what drivers it came with and will post the link to you. That way you can verify it to be sure it is the correct Motherboard or Computer System.
Then you can update any drivers that are newer than when you bought the Motherboard or Computer system. Hopefully by updating the drivers and possibly the BIOS it might make it more compatible with newer Windows versions and Drivers.
Afterward, Post the results of reinstalling the Drivers and see if it helps in any way the problems you are having.
I hope this is not too much info.
This reboot problem started on Dec 15 the day Windowsupdated to version 1709. The system is about 4 years old and never had a rebootproblem before the update. It was purchased as a single unit, but has adifferent monitor that was purchasedbefore the update. The system goes to a black screen with no notification orbeeps, reboots with no “please wait messages”, displays the HP Logo thendisplays the screen saver. Windows’ mini dumps do not activate on the reboot. I asked Microsoft about the firmware/BIOS she wascommenting on and here is her response.
Hi SeniorTom, |
Liezl Fal has replied to the question Windows 10 restarting at random times that you are following in Microsoft Community. |
As mentioned in the previous reply, the dump pointed to "0x0_dxgkrnl!dxgdbgtakesnapshot" being the faulting module which translates to your computer's display drivers. We suggest continuing to work with AMD and ask for the latest firmware for it. We need to make sure that it is the latest before we check out other things for step by step isolation of the concern. Let us know how it goes. Regards. |

Is this a laptop ?, what model APU ?
Any firmware update would come from the (laptop) manufacturer.
check in your device manager & manually search the drivers. Sometimes widows on updates downloads multipul drivers chipset or hybrib laptop video drivers sometimes need to dig deep in your windows install to install the proper drivers to suit the OS. microsofts creators updates been horrible & hit of miss driver wise clshing throwing bugs with the newest display drivers.
Thanks for your feedback. I have downloaded the drivers multiple times. Regards
