Driver crash when watching videos on browser

I'm having constant problems related to driver crashing when watching videos on my browser. It seems independant of which website (I have had it watching videos on YouTube and Streams on Twitch), I'll detail everything I can think of below.

By driver crashes I mean a green screen for a couple of seconds followed by either a no error message hard restart or the drivers recovering with a driver timeout message by AMD software.

OS: Windows 11

GPU: 6700XT

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

  • The crashes are happening on Opera GX (Didn't test other browsers). I have hardware acceleration disabled, doesn't seem to make a difference.
  • There seems to be no consistent time interval for it to crash, it can take 1~2 minutes or half an hour, but it seems to crash more frequently after the first one (assuming the system didn't reset).
  • The crashes only happen when videos are playing, I have extensively tested multiple games and never had any problem related to either crashing or performance.
  • They happen even if the video is running on the background (If i play something while I hear a video being played on the background it crashes, I only have 1 monitor)
  • If the browser is open with no video playback happening I don't get crashes, no matter if it's on the foreground or background.
  • I'm not using experimental drivers.
  • I prevented windows from installing video drivers by itself.
  • I have used DDU to clean the drivers before installing them through AMD Adrenalin.

A peculiar behaviour I noticed is that sometimes after a hard crash it seems the drivers stop working properly (My games say I don't have OpenGL or DirectX installed) and everything display related seems sluggish as if I didn't have drivers installed. This is only solved by cleaning the drivers with DDU and then reinstalling them.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I have disabled windows MPO through the registry, doesn't seem to make a difference.

hay man i think i have the same problem, when watching okra crashes and bricks the drivers were you have to uninstall and reinstall concert?

do you have any thing running like wallpaper engine or something else that takes some ram and gpu. it mostly happens to me when i have the gpu and ram running near max but it never happens when i working in other programs like Maya is only opera

I solved my first by deleting my riser 4.0 personally. If it can help. (Phanteks)

I had this problem only in video playback and not in game strangely.

same problem, no solutions yet.

and from what i've seen from other users reporting the same thing, it really doesn't matter which amd cpu or graphics, motherboard, OS version or other is being used in the config. the common denominator is the drivers and this goes back months.

I was hoping the january version release would fix it, alas here we all are.
