Hi,
I've built this AMD PC last year with a 5600X and RX6600XT with 16GB RAM on a ASUS TUF B550M. It has been a wonderful thing ever as my 'second' upgrade in a decade.
However, things started to go downhill after Feb-April when I noticed a weird pattern of Unreal Engine games crashing more frequently and randomly on me than usual. Even on Deep Rock Galactic started to crash (a game that never got me issues since day 1).
ALWAYS with "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" crash and I already did everything that I could over the past months - reinstalled Windows twice, tried different SSD/HDD, no DOCP, previous old drivers of GPU, chipsets and even BIOS version. This crash never stops to haunt me. Meanwhile, other non Unreal games runs fine and no problems.
Even my PC started to randomly bluescreen on me with "IRQL_not_less_or_equal" and "PROCESS_EXCEPTION" errors.
I don't know what to do anymore and this feels exhausting to search around for another "solution" that I already tried. I noticed a high group of people having these same type of crash on AMD drivers recently.
Solved! Go to Solution.
HUGE Update: I finally managed to play Darktide for 3 hours without crashing once! All thanks to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPRM0ykdmHU) -- basically I needed to create a couple of register keys and somehow they are holding together my issue with the crashes. If any of you are experiencing engine crashes of "access violation" of any kind, try this solution.
I'm on Win 10 Pro - same specs above, latest drivers and BIOS version.
I also undervolted my GPU through AMD's Radeon. I used the one from AMD already, gonna try manually in another time.
This is still going and no updates so far. Planning to try a fresh Windows 11 install to see if is a Windows problem or actual AMD drivers problem.
Update: Fresh Windows 11 install, everything up to dated, running the latest AMD drivers. Another crash on an Unreal Engine game - Deep Rock Galactic. Attaching a mini dump of theirs.
I also tried Warhammer Darktide and it also crashed when booting up the game. However, played few rounds of "Ready or Not" and so far it plays nicely (I believe it is also an Unreal Engine game).
I play lost ark which has UE and crashes after the latest update..
AMD are a scummy company, I have had 3 AMD gpu's throughout my life and all of them have had the same glitch where they freeze the computer under a specific heavy load like certain unreal engine games even though they can run other, heavier games with no problem! They ship their defective merchandise and sell it in my country! It is the only plausible explanation as to why I've had all my AMD gpu's experience the same type of error for probably 15 years now! Nvidia is more of a proprietary closed source garbage so screw them! If you manage to fix this let us know.
Only scum here is I think you
Not my fault you don't know basics on software or you are just one more here Nvidia troll. Amd should allow to post comments only for those who have serial key on CPU or GPU
Update 2: Uninstalling GPU drivers and running by Windows default drivers doesn't solve the issue. For some reason, disabling Window's Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling resulting not crashing in couple of games, but others remain the same. League of Legends continues to randomly freeze itself in any match (normal, AI vs. and ARAM mode) -- PC and all background programs remains fine when this happens.
For curiosity, Resident Evil 4 Remake runs perfectly fine (RE Engine) and CSGO and Team Fortress 2 also runs fine (Source Engine). I'll continue to test on more random games, but the pattern continues: all Unreal Engine games have instability, and I noticed a group of people experiencing this same issue since the start of the year.
I'm not sure if this is related, but when I built my PC with a 5700xt I would constantly get black screens followed by my PC restarting. After about a year I stopped using discord constantly and my crashing almost completely went away. Apparently the issue, I assume, was multiple applications using hardware acceleration. So after I stopped using discord as much my crashing problem mostly went away, accept for the occasional game crash but that isn't out of the ordinary, and would only happen rarely. Try closing as many applications as possible and only run the game. It's not much but definitely worth a shot. Also, turn off hardware acceleration in discord. I didn't notice any crashes when using the application. Also try running DDU( Display Driver Uninstaller) if you haven't already. It's pretty simple just look up a tutorial. The goal with DDU is to make sure there are apsolutely no other versions of display drivers on your PC. Goodluck
my 1000usd gizmo 7900xtx crashes instantly with any unreal engine game now, its not a resource issue, i have 8tb nvme, 64gb ram, ryzen 3900xt. driver cleanup didnt work, increased swap file to 64gb didnt work, any graphic settings combination (even low) will crash any unreal engine game either version 4 o 5, obviously windows/games everything is on latest greatest updates. it all started while playing immortals of aveum, game crashed and i driver got corrupted, gpu got disconnected, file access to drive where game is stored gets on read only mode so im forced to reboot on every ctd. good job.
it turns out some unreal engine games will work if you turn-off windows gpu scheduling so for those on similar setup please give that a try.
i had massive problems with the Indika Demo, an UE4 Game which crashed on startup even before the main menu showed up. i did not find the gpu scheduling within my win10 22h2 Build.
But, right now it seems i have fixed the crashes by disabeling the Windows Game Mode.
You'll find this in Settings > Gaming > Game Mode
any updates ? i m having the same problem
Why most of us have no issue ?
Might be combination of hardware, driver version, os and etc.

I have ryzen 9 3900xt with nvidia 1080ti and i have same issue with some unreal engine games, mostly 5.4 version, they are not opening at all, processes are in task manager but no window, error, log etc.
I also undervolted my GPU through AMD's Radeon. I used the one from AMD already, gonna try manually in another time.
Sadly, none of that works for my RX 7900 XT.
Bad news. Crashes are back (after Windows update I think) but not that constant like before. I bet my GPU is busted or not that stable with Unreal games.
After windows update I found I had to reinstall AMD-software-adrenalin-edition-24.12.1 and adrenalin and games started working again. Not sure what windows 10 update did? I did just test it on Satisfactory and PoE.
