Broken Image in 24.10.1 drivers with RX 6700 XT

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my AMD RX 6700 XT graphics card recently, where the display becomes corrupted with certain driver versions. The problem started about two weeks ago and seems to happen randomly, with no specific actions triggering it.

Issue:

  • When using drivers 24.10.1 or 24.9.1, the display becomes corrupted (as shown in the attached screenshot).
  • The image breaks up, and this occurs every 10-15 seconds when the PC is idle, and every 2-3 seconds when I’m screen sharing.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers via Device Manager, AMD Utility Cleanup, and Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
  • Switching to different display connections (DisplayPort and HDMI) and cables.
  • Testing the monitor on another PC, and it works fine.
  • Replacing my AMD card with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti—this solved the issue, with no image corruption.
  • Reinstalling the RX 6700 XT after using the NVIDIA card, and the problem came back.

I’ve been using this RX 6700 XT for over two years with no issues, so this problem is definitely new. I also have a 750W Gold PSU, which should be plenty for my setup, and I don’t use AMD Freesync Premium (it’s disabled).

The Fix:

Rolling back to driver version 24.8.1 seems to resolve the issue, and everything works fine again.

It’s strange that these specific newer driver versions (24.10.1 and 24.9.1) are causing the issue for me, while others don’t seem to be affected by them. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with these drivers, or does anyone have suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thanks for any help or advice!

Note that I uninstalled and installed again the apps that occur this corruption when screen sharing. Also, the video shows it on Chrome but happens also anywhere.
