After so many years of intermittent response from the Adrenalin tool, think I finally figured out what causes it to go "zombie" and unresponsive to keystrokes during gameplay - Remote Desktop. On a fresh Windows session things would work as expected, but after connecting to the computer via Remote Desktop, Adrenalin seems to be lost with what the active display adapter is anymore and thus likely to not respond.
