Started The Christmas Build

I cleaned up the old Rosewill tower and all the fans. I hope my buddy likes what I put together for him. It will have a Ryzen 7 3700X on my old MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi with 16GB DDR4 3200mhz memory. He has his own storage so I will let him set that up. He doesn't want RGB so I will have to show him how to turn off the 3 front fans as they are Corsair SP 120s. Is 600W okay for a 3700X paired with a GTX 1060 6gb?

I will post pictures once I have the CPU I am going to replace the 3700X with. Also, with 6 fans, do you think the stock 3700X cooler will be enough? He will be running productivity workloads like Photoshop and other programs of the like.

Although 600w technically would work for that combo, if you could recommend anything to your buddy is to move to an 850w for future-proofing and of course to ensure that you don't get any random draws that push too much strain onto his PSU.

I guess I could go all out and give him the 850 Watt unit since I have my 750 and the 600. Is 16gb enough RAM for productivity workloads photo editing and light video editing?

I think you are clear to go with the 600. As the 3700X is less power hungry than the 2700X and plus, 1060 is also very economical. Just avoid pushed OC'ing but other than that its really SUPER OK.

As it is a good X570 board, I would check if the PBO is set to Auto or Normal, if its set to a more aggressive level, It may go all the way to 150Watts on the CPU alone when video rendering.

You will be able to handle 1080/60 video editing just OK, I won't say smoothly, but really OK as long as He sticks to light editing effects and timelines under 15min. Productivity and Photo will be easy.

125Watts Peak for STOCK Founders Edition, maybe a bit more on AIB cards.

Got the 3700X slotted now I need to pull apart my media PC and steal the cooler from it. I'll just slap the stock cooler back on the 2600X in it.

Good Friend! I see your motive though, being a good human and getting your buddy a system so he can game with you. Nicely done! I think 600w is just fine. I just built a Ryzen 7 1700x with an Aorus  b550i board and a 3060 12g due to the size of my build, it doesn't come close to 600W total. So with 1080, you should be ok. can always do the math and take all the TDP's and add em together and see where you're at. Leave a couple of hundred watts for transient spikes and whatnot.

Well it is finished and with it's new owner. Is 50c-60c for 3700X on the stock cooler okay during regular usage? idle is in the 40c to 50c range depending on what is running in the background. Stress tested 75c.

Guy was on 4th gen Intel with DDR3 and still runs an HDD. I'm just giving him my Crucial MX500 1TB. I have enough storage for all the games I could want. He needed new hardware. I didn't give him a GPU but that is because I am just not giving away my backup before I can purchase a new one.
