Bulding PC for my kid - Need Advice

Hello everyone, my name is Tom, a programming engineer from Terus.

My son's birthday is coming up, he is quite fond of technology, especially AMD, so on this occasion I want to give him a special gift because he has been very good during puberty despite many family changes. After going to the stores for reference, I am deciding on this configuration:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G
  • RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2X8GB)
  • Mainboard: Asrock B550M STEEL LEGEND
  • Card: Asus TUF RTX 3060 O12G V2 GAMING
  • Power source: Cooler Master MWE white 230V 700W

I don't know if this is optimized, I don't know if he plays games but I once saw him often watching youtube about ARK and Valorant. Hope the above configuration can meet the boy's wishes. Hope everyone gives their opinions. Thank you everyone.

He has wanted a PC for a long time but was afraid of the cost to his family so he didn't often mention it. This gift will be very meaningful to him!

It would help if you told us your budget for the computer build, and what country you live in (for access to the components).  You don't mention a lot of other components that would be needed, such as a monitor, a keyboard, a mouse, etc.

The minimum amount of RAM is 16 GB, with 32 GB preferred.  You can get by with the 16 GB though.  The CPU you selected isn't that common and I personally would be looking for an AM4 socket CPU in the 5000 series, such as the 5600X or better.  You choice of a 700 Watt PSU is a bit on the low side for running a discrete GPU, and I would recommend a PSU closer to 850 Watts.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

That is very cool. This should be a really good build. I always wonder if I am building a computer for a kid or young adult if they would like to DIY so when they looked at the PC they can think "I built that". Nice build no matter what. I have the Steel Legend and it has been flawless.
