Hi! I was curious on what you ppl think i should do. I currently run a 5800X3D with a GTX1080, but i wanna swap fully to team red. Should i wait for the 7000 series until a presumable 7800XT is out or just go with a 6800XT now if i get a new price? I game at 2k but am not in a rush for an upgrade. Thanks!

Whether to get an RX 6800 XT now really depends on your priority when it comes to games, and whether RT is important to you. I understand the price of some AMD cards has dropped tremendously, so now maybe as good a time as any to go RX 6800 XT. At 2k res, I take 2k to be 2560x1440 (or QHD) so the RX 6800 XT would be a beast for just about all games at that res, well, perhaps Calisto Protocol may be the exception.
But, IF you're in no rush, having the GTX 1080 now as main card means you'll get decent gameplay with mix of Medium/High settings. that means you can afford to wait. The thing is, AMD has yet to announce the release date of the RX 7800 series, so you might be in for an extended wait.
I have an RX 6900 XT in my main all AMD rig, it'll go into my 2nd all AMD rig when I upgrade my main rig with the RX 7900 XTX. The RX 6800 XT performance isn't that far off from my RX 6900 XT, and my card chews up the various game I play at 3840x1080, max ingame setting. This res is a little harder than 2k, 2k = 2560x1440 = ~3.686MP, whereas my 3840x1080 = ~4.147MP.
I see the PowerColor RX 6800 XT is going for about 650USD over at Amazon (I'd paid more than twice for my Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT just under two years back!), so you basically can't lose if you get one. The one caveat is, RT performance is not up to scratch, but IF all you care about is rasterize gaming, I have only three words to say. "GO FOR IT!!!"
I'd wait for the RX 7000 series, we're just a few days away from launch!

Really appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks for your input! I'll of course first wait to see 7000 series prices in my area.
So, have you a chance to grab one of this badboy? Stick with exclusive AIBs like PowerColor, (Red Devil) Sapphire (Nitro+, Vapor-X) and XFX (MERC 310)....and perhaps ASRock. I find MSI, Gigabyte and Asus to be asking a tad too much (usually) for their cards, other than their lower tier cards.
