Hello, I brought a new RX 5700 XT gpu last week (Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT SE) and it seems like the opencl is broken.
It started with persistent crashes when using blender, and then I discovered that there is some persistent computation error when using the plaidml benchmark tool (for example the mobilenet benchmark).
I am using Linux, but there's a few others that using Windows that has similar issues.
I am using the latest AMDGPU-PRO version (20.40).

Please provide a minimal test-case that manifests the issue and share the OS information and the clinfo output.
I have two test cases:
* Launch Blender. Enable opencl acceleration. Change the renderer to Cycles and change the device to GPU. Change the material of the default cube to a volumetric shader. Change the viewport to render view. You can see a video that I have uploaded here:

Do you know if and when you're gonna look into it?
I see from forums that people have those kind of problems for over a year, and for now I cannot do anything with the card.
So if you don't think it will be resolved soon please let me know so I will not wait, and I'll just return the card and look for an alternative.
I have opened a bug ticket against the computation error issue for the benchmark tool. The concerned team will look into it. Currently it would be difficulty to provide any timeline on this.
As you mentioned here https://developer.blender.org/T78027#1032051 , the computation error issue might be similar as this one :Wrong OpenCL calculation result on AMD 5700 XT
Did you try the test-case on your setup? If not, could you please try it once to see if the issue is still reproducible.
Regarding the blender issue, it seems to be a compilation issue as reported in original post here: T78027 Render crashes Blender when used with Volume Absorption . Did you observe any compilation error like this when the blender stopped responding?

Just tested the the code from https://community.amd.com/thread/248056 on my Linux, and it does work correctly, so it's another issue.
I didn't see any compilation error in blender but maybe I just cannot find the right logs.
But does it make sense that a compilation error would cause the GPU usage to spike until the system shuts down?

It's difficult to say why the GPU usage is so high. That's why I asked you to check if there is any error information / log message that clearly indicates it's an OpenCL compilation issue.
Anyway, could you please check with the blender team if they can help you find the right logs or they can provide any other information ( for example, any specific kernel files) related to this issue?

Were you able to reproduce those issues?
As I mentioned, I already created a bug ticket against the computation error issue for the benchmark tool. As of now, I don't see any update on this issue. I'll let you know if I get any update from the concerned team.
Regarding the blender crash report, you may check with the Blender team if they can point out any issue from the crash report. I'm not an expert on Blender software, so I don't know much about this log report. Anyway, I'm checking with the concerned team. If required, I'll create a separate bug ticket against it.
By the way, I was just trying to reproduce the blender issue following these steps: T78027 Render crashes Blender when used with Volume Absorption on a Carrizo laptop with Adrenalin 20.9.1, but I didn't see any such high GPU usage (see the attached screenshot). As I observed, the blender software was not responding sometimes when I clicked the "Viewport Shading". From the task manager, the resource usage was like this: CPU usage : < 30, GPU usage: < 10, memory usage: ~3GB (of 16GB RAM).
Just to let you know, I've created a separate bug ticket for the blender related issue.

Update:
Regarding the blender issue, the concerned team was able to reproduce it with AMDGPU-Pro 20.40. However, they said that the issue is no longer reproducible with the latest AMDGPU Pro build.
With the latest AMDGPU Pro build, the PAL stack has been replaced with a new one (ROCr) and the issue is not reproducible on this stack.
This build is expected to be released soon.
