Ryzen Master settings

Dear All,

I am newbie (first post), so please excuse anything strange.

I have a custom-made desktop with a Ryzen Threadripper 3970X, 32 cores, 64 threads, 64GB on board, water cooled. The system board is a TRX40 AORUS Pro WIFI. I am running Windows 10 Pro.

It's a screamer, but of course, more is more better. 🙂

I recently became aware of the Ryzen Master application, and I seek your collective advice about how to take advantage of its features for the type of work I do. Occasionally, I do some "computationally intensive" statistical analyses.  The software I use can take advantage of multiple processors. For the most part, true to its name, the Threadripper tears through analyses. Nevertheless, there are some times when the algorithms are estimating a pant load of parameters, and even the Beast, as I have named my machine, can take a while to generate a solution.

It is my understanding (I am no expert in such matters) that the best hardware for computationally intensive applications overlaps with the best hardware for video applications. If this is the case, it would seem that the "Game Mode Profile" in Ryzen Master would be a good starting point.

Please let me know if you have any experience or recommendations along these lines. I do not want to "get too deep into the weeds" on tweaking my machine. It works just fine, but there are some times when I would like to push it a bit.

Thank you for reading this request.

Happy 2025.

John

PS I tried to post on the Processors discussion, but I am not certain that it worked.

I would download AMD Ryzen Master Guide and read it thoroughly before using it. You can end up with a PC not booting up into Windows.

Master Ryzen GAME MODE will cut your CPU core in half. Many games don't support more then 8/16 cores in a CPU thus Game Mode disables 50% of your CPU cores.

Here is to download the latest Ryzen Master: https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/ryzen-master.html

NOTE: Please download the latest Ryzen Master Guide to get familiarized with the App.

Hi Elstaci,

Thanks for this, particularly the point about disabling 50% of the cores -- not desirable.

I had hit the AMD site but I was led to download a previous version, ca. 2018, amd-ryzen-master-2-14-1-3286.exe. The version you led me to is much newer. And yes, I will read the guide -- always a good idea. :-). Thanks for reminding/encouraging me.

My primary interest is (probably) simply enabling some decent over-clocking. It appears that the software decides which/how many cores to access, so it appears that I am left with getting these cores to run more quickly.

The journey continues -- any other comments, suggestions, and recommendations are welcome. I am in uncharted territory -- at least for me.

Kind regards,

John
