AMD Radeon™ HD 6770M + Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 Switchable Problem In Windows 11

Hi dear managers,

I have an old HP laptop with this model :

HP Pavilion dv6 6190 se - Core i7 - 8 GIG Ram

This laptop has two switchable graphic cards like below :

AMD Radeon™ HD 6770M + Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 Drivers

I know this laptop is old - but it is healthy and it is like brand new.

When i bought this laptop i could n't find a way to switch graphic cards.

Now i installed windows 11 on it.

Updates find drivers for both graphic cards.

After update it's default graphic card was Intel.

I tried to put battery mode and plugging mode to high performance.

But graphic card has stuck on Intel and do n't switch to AMD at all.

In BIOS there is an option for graphic card : Fixed or Dynamic

I set it to dynamic with no help.

Also in settings of amd driver i defined Microsoft Edge application to work with high performance mode.

But after running ms edge nothing happens.

I found a driver here :

https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/amd-radeon-hd-6000m-series/amd-radeon-hd-6770m

But i do n't know what is the difference between Catalist & Crimson.

Also it seems there is no driver for windows 11.

Please tell my how can i put amd graphic card as default graphic card!

Thanks in advance

The Intel HD3000 graphics is not supported for Win10 or Win11. The compatibility driver Windows Update will install does not work for switchable graphics.

The AMD graphics also is not supported with new drivers...it's last update was in 2015.

There is no way you will have a fully functional computer with either Win10 or Win11, so either limp along with what you have or install Windows7 which the laptop was designed for.

Thanks for the answer.

I reverted back to windows 7.

Some years ago i backed up all softwraes and drivers of this laptop.

I installed all of them in windows 7 and it seems every thing in ok and all drivers are good.

I can see two indicators of graphic cards in system tray.

One of them is for Intel and the other one is for amd.

DirectX of windows is version 11.

I installed an app with the name of Performance Test

I ran a test on 3d mark directx 11 in performance test and here was result :

Before test i reflashed this laptop bios with latest bin file and i am certainly sure it is healthy.

For graphic card in bios settings there is an option that have two items : Fixed | Dynamic

Default was Dynamic and i did n't change it.

Why graphic card can not switch to AMD and why i have only 4 resolution about this laptop.

What did i do wrong and how can i fix this issue?

Here is another relared topic that can explain more about my situation.

At the end tell me how can i switch to amd card manually and test it.

When i disable intel graphic driver in device manager it do n't switch to amd one and both graphic drivers were disabled.

I set chrome to run as HighPerformance in amd graphic settings.

But when i open chrome nothing happens.

For the other apps there is same manner as chrome.

Set the graphics to fixed in the bios. Dynamic means switchable. Sometimes, depending on the manufacturer, there is a panel to the right that gives you the choice to make the AMD graphics the 'primary' which is what you want.

Make sure the computer power plan is set to 'Performance' and not the default 'Balanced'.

Also go to Intel support and use their driver updater to find updates for your laptop which will include graphics drivers,

etc  https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

Thanks for the advice and now it is working.

It switched to amd one and it is default.

But i can not see any difference on image.

Also in amd one i have 4 resolutions still.

Is this ok?

That test shows graphic card is amd.

But it tells can not handle desired resolution.

What is the 'desired' resolution you want? What tells you 'it can not handle' desired resolution? What resolutions do you have available? What is your native resolution?

Check out the specifications of that graphics chip. You will be limited to resolutions.

With the Intel graphics disabled, Windows will read/see AMD as compatible with Win11. So if it updates, you will not have the use of the intel / switchable feature. All graphics furnished by the AMD chip. Will drain your battery quicker if not plugged in.

Please see those captures.

In fixed mode and high performance plugged in power end resolution is : 1366*768

But that techpowerup sire tells :

Recommended Gaming Resolutions:

 1366x768

1600x900

1920x1080

You missed this part

" This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it. Rather it is intended for use in laptop/notebooks and will use the output of the host mobile device. "

Thanks for the help all the time.

But it has two ports for connect displays.

One of them is hdmi and the other one is 15 pin port (it seems it is vga).

Use the HDMI. You still have no choice of resolution. 1366x768 is what your stuck with.

Hi dear manager,

There is a misunderstanding here about these two graphic cards.

Check this out.

https://askgeek.io/en/gpus/vs/Intel_HD-Graphics-3000-vs-AMD_Radeon-HD-6770M

When this laptop switchs on amd one i feel nothing and you told latest resolution is 1366*768.

So what is the difference between these two cards?

Is AMD one real on this laptop or they replaced it.

In many web sites tell this graphic card is suitable for gaming, but it can not handle a middle game.

Please explain about mobility cards and other cards and tell what is the difference between these two cards.
