Ubuntu 24.04, OpenCL, RX6600

Hello All,

I moved from my Nvidia workstation running Ubuntu 24.04 to a new one, and I thought it was a good idea to pick a Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 23 [Radeon RX 6600/6600 XT/6600M] (rev c7).

It turns out that to run OpenCL on Darktable you need amdgpu-pro drivers, which are not available with Ubuntu 24.04.

Spending some time browsing on the net I was able to install older drivers, and use OpenCL in DT, however when the monitor went asleep, most of the times would not come back, and today the screen was totally blacked out even after accessing the console with ctrl-alt-F2 and rebooting.

What a nightmare! Luckily I have time till Jan 15th to return the GPU.

The question is, given that I will not downgrade Ubuntu, and OpenCL is a requirement, is there a solution, or should I give up and move to Nvidia?

Thanks for reading and all the best,

-G
