ryzen 7 5700g upgrade help...

i currently have an msi b350 tomahawk with a ryzen 5 2400g. runs great and never had any issues. decided to upgrade the cpu and looked on msi's site and saw that ryzen 7 was supported. so, i bought a ryzen 7 5700g and popped it in. well, THAT generation of cpu is apparently is not supported even though the site clearly shows support for ryzen 7 without any mention of it on the specs page https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B350-TOMAHAWK/Specification .

that said, i have little money to work with and since i opened the cpu and put it in, i can't get a refund. so i'm out $400 unless i can get a motherboard that it will work in. can someone recommend a NON msi board? i'm just tired of money i can't afford to be wasted like this.

If you looked at the same link for the Specs of your motherboard under CPU Ryzen 7 in 'Details" it mentions it only supports:Screenshot 2022-04-03 222909.png

But the place you should have looked at is at your Motherboard's CPU SUPPORT LIST: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/b350-tomahawk/support#cpu

Here is the list for most of the 3000 series APUs it supports. None for the 4000 nor 5000 Series Processors both regular and APU:

I went to PCPARTPICKET and inputted your Ryzen 7 5700G processors. Here are all the compatible Motherboards with some prices on them: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/?compatible_with=ycGbt6

Unfortunately it is going to cost more money than just buying the Motherboard. You probably will also need to purchase compatible RAM Memory for the 5000 Series APU (Cezanne) processor.

but first try with the RAM you now have for your old APU Processor and see if it boots up with the new Motherboard. If it doesn't then you will know you will need to purchase new compatible RAM.

Look at your Motherboard's QVL List for RAM MEMORY for the 5000 Series or Cezanne processors before buying RAM. Of if the RAM you want is not listed go to the RAM Manufacturer site and use their RAM Memory Compatible Calculator to determine if it is compatible with your Motherboard and Processor.
