My problems with AMD drivers

Pc specs:
               Graphics card: Rx 7900GRE
               CPU : Ryzen 7 7700x

               Ram: 32GB 6000Mhz

               Motherboard: MSI MAG 650b tomahawk

               PowerSupply: bequiet 850w

So i've had my graphics card for about a year now, and i've gotta say it's NOT been a fun experience. For the whole span of that period i've been met with crashes after crashes, visual bugs, and once my whole pc shutting down for seemingly no reason at all. I've tried reinstalling my drivers 6+ times going back and forth between versions and it didn't help at all.

What i'm trying to say is that, there's no way that i paid 550$ for a graphics card that can't do it's job more than half the time. Don't get me wrong the performance is great, but the fact that i'm facing so many issues is making me question my choices.

Some of the games i've had multiple crashes on that have no sign of stopping:

Fortnite DirectX 12 (Amd apparently said it's been "fixed" or "improved" in one of the driver patch notes and i fail to see any improvement)
Roblox: CONSTANT CRASHES and i mean it, i can't play a game without it crashing 5 minutes after
Warthunder: Stuttering, flickering, the whole driver completely giving up forcing the game to flash the screen and drop graphic quality, and ofc completely crashing

Wuthering waves: Same as fortnite i can't play DirectX12 on it
And there's a multitude of other games i've faced problems on.

Now i'm sure that there might be a "fix" somewhere on the internet for some of these (which i doubt) but even if there's some guy out there that can fix it for me, I shouldn't even be IN this situation in the first place. I paid for a smooth experience as advertised by not only amd but a MASSIVE amount of creators around the internet saying that the driver situation has been fixed, and it HASN'T, not only for my card but for other cards too! (Judging by the amount of complaints i've seen our the forms and on the internet in general.) I can deal with a problem or two and i understand that some issues will occur but not to this degree. I can't remember enjoying my time on a game without the fear of it crashing on me randomly.

Before concluding this post though, i'd like to mention that i'm by no means insulting or shaming amd. I view them as an amazing company with great capabilities, for example my Ryzen 7 7700x is the greatest processor i've ever had.  But after enduring  this for about a year, i had to talk about it . But maybe it's just because my graphics card is flawed in some way from the factory and i'm the only one facing these issues, or it could be a problem with my pc i'm not aware of, which i highly doubt since i used another graphics card from another company for around 1 month without any issues.

I'm curious to find out about your experience with amd and how you guys feel about this, and maybe you can give me some solutions to my problem, if any of you read this..

Hi,

well, all I can add/suggest is the following

  1. Make sure you are running two separate 8pin power cables to the GPU. Avoid using a split 8 pin cable if you can. This *may* address some of the shutdown issues IF the card is drawing more power than the single cable can deliver safely. Some PSUs will do a overload shutdown to protect itself and hopefully the rest of the system in such cases. I had to do this when I was using a RX 6800XT a few years ago. I had heaps of issues with the card and doing this fixed a lot of the issues for me at the time.

  2. With regard to drivers, uninstall the drivers with DDU (in Windows Safe mode) and then reinstall them.

  3. You could try disabling Smart Access Memory on the GPU. I have seen some threads where users have said it helped in some games. You can disable it in the systems BIOS or within AMDs Adrenalin drivers under the Performance settings.

  4. Check your motherboards BIOS and update it if there is a more recent version as long as you are comfortable in doing so.

  5. If you are using FSR, try without.

Best of luck

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I've tried solution 1 a couple of months ago since i don't trust split cables all that much, all the drivers i've uninstalled i did so by using DDU so no fix there 😕 and also i've never really used FSR so...

I'll try disabling smart access memory and update my bios and get back to you.

Again, thanks so much!
