First experience with a full AMD build and its been nothing but a massive headache (HELP)

So i decided to upgrade my computer at the start of this year and wasnt super enthused by the direction of Nvdia and Intel so i decided to do a full AMD build.

i upgraded from an rtx 2080ti, i7 7800k to an 7900xtx, 7950x build.

when i first booted up my computer i thought it was great and everything ran smoothly.

cant remember when it started but my AMD adrenaline drivers will constantly crash playing any game or doing any activity, my primary monitor (1440p 165hz) will sometimes lag after bootup, i've tested to see if it was startup apps etc and to no avail. my computer will bluescreen for no reason, i can be watching a youtube video and i will press a key and it just blue screens.

i also have 2x16 ddr5 6200mhz ram that i cant seem to get above 4800mhz even in expo.

im at a loss for why these things happen and could use help from someone far more knowledgable than i.

and since this latest update adrenaline wont even open.

thanks in advance for any help.

after updating my bios, and reducing my RAM voltage down to 1.6 i've not experienced any crashes, its a bit early to be certain its worked 100% but so far its seemed to fix the problems.

thanks all for the advice

There were loads of motherboard BIOS issues causing exactly your issues. Not sure which board you have but my ASUS X670E board had crappy bios updates for like 3-4 months until they released a beta that actually would run well. I've recently updated to the latest bios and it's been running fantastic. I'd start there.

i have the x670E-E so thanks for letting me know.

+1 to the above post. My ASUS ROG Stix B650E-E WiFi was a bit flaky as well in the early days, esp with my Gskil 6000 DDR5. Took quite a few BIOS updates from ASUS to address the RAM stability issues.

Currently running the second latest BIOS for my board as it has been rock solid and I haven't seen a compelling reason yet to update it. I know it added better support for faster DDR5, but I'm already running mine at its rated speed.

I updated my bios to the latest version on the Asus website for my board and it now wont post with DOCP enabled

Hi,

sorry but I can't comment on DOCP as I don't use it, I just use EXPO, so if you haven't tried EXPO, perhaps give it a go. From my limited understanding of the two, they are both meant to do the same thing, allowing you to run your ram at higher speeds.

when i first built my PC the bios had EXPO, but now its been replaced with docp

i've also updated the bios, cleared the cmos, and upped the voltage of my ram to enable 6200mhz my bluescreening and game freezing/crashing is still occuring

Check the QVL for your memory kit, ASUS did a revision sometime ago.

If its a EXPO certified kit, it should appear EXPO as it reads from the sticks.

I still use a very early BIOS for my RoG Strix X670E A version because.. it works flawlessly.

New platforms are expected to suffer from growing pains.  One option is to turn down your memory settings until you find a stable solution.

RAM voltage Down to 1.6v?! .. it should be in the neighborhood of 1.35v .. nowhere near 1.6v ..let alone above 1.6v

Make sure your RAM is installed in slots A2/B2 (2nd and 4th slots away from the CPU socket)

Make sure you have the latest AM5 chipset drivers installed from AMD.com website

Hopefully you did a CLEAN install of Windows with the new hardware
