If this IS true, and I won't believe it until I see it, it will go a way towards proving ray tracing is feasible on upper mainstream cards, and really a spit from midrange cards. I have a feeling, however, that this will only reduce image quality to improve performance, something both AMD and nVidia have been caught at in the past. 50% performance improvement from a single patch after undoubtedly months of close partnership during development is pretty farfetched.
