Hey, Red Team. How has your year been going? I have been playing so many games over this last few months, and many of them have been great.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been really fun. The visuals were awesome and the frame gen was really well implimented. I have only spent about 12 hours in game but it has been pretty sweet. I enjoy adventuring in the world of Pandora. I like the movies, so that probably makes me biased. That said, I am having a pretty good time playing for an hour here or there.
Palworld blew me away with how well the game runs, and the fun that can be had catching monsters and building bases. I hardly got into the towers, only beating two, and had a blast. I spent a few days lost in this game. I found myself looking at the time, and realizing I spent hours on this game when I meant to just spend one or two.
Wayfinder didn't come out this year but has been pretty cool too. It is early access with a price tag of 20 USD, but I have put about 25 hours into the game and it feels really good to play. Admittedly I don't really know what to do beyond just questing and grinding XP. I should probably pay more attention to the story.
Dragon's Dogma 2 has been a breathe of fresh air, in that there is very little hand holding in this RPG. You do actually need to pay attention to conversations because some quests don't have markers. This isn't the best part. The best part is that you can hire friends NPC characters to help you in your journey. I have been avoiding using the "best" party members so I still get to enjoy the combat instead of just watching your party smash enemies that are supposed to be a challenge. I have a limited understanding of what is actually going on in the game but if you ignore the performance issues, this game is really a good time.
I have played many other games, but I don't have screenshots, and many didn't come out this year.
The list includes:
It has been a decent chunk of time since the new year, and I have been having a really good time. What are you playing? Are there any games that just blew your mind?
Mighty Doom on my Mighty RoG phone 🤣
Is it free?
It has a lot of "in-game ads (not comercial ads) to push you into buying stuff" but I'm not into it.
I play it free free free without a single purchase. Its a single player game, I might as well take my sweet time to finish it and enjoy the slow progress.
Its funny as hell on earth. 🤣
😁
I may have to give it a try.
I am typically a late game adopter as I wait until they are heavily discounted. And as Far Cry 6 was initially exclusive to Epic I waited until it was on Steam before I picked it up. But it certainly didn't disappoint, I own every Far Cry except Primal and I have over 120 hours in 6 alone.
I would like to pick up Starfield at some point but I also have No Man's Sky on my wishlist for some time as well. In addition to single player RPGs I also enjoy puzzle games, the last one played was House of Da Vinci 2 and I also have Islands of Insight in my queue to try next.
Been playing about half the games on that list.
Avatar was great! Lately though, I've been playing mostly Fortnite and Last Epoch
I just picked up star wars jedi survivor great game so far. I must say it be great if they made another battlefront game.
I forgot those games existed. I need to get on playing those, even though I am not particularly into Star Wars. I heard and continue to hear good things.
Been playing...
Been a long time since I've had multiple games I've been interested in playing.
heck yeah, GTA V all day man. love it
been trying to get into Witcher as well, seems like a really good game so far.
I haven't had much time to play games in the new year. Currently I am summoning up the will to finish Red Dead Redemption 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. I also have Ace Combat 7 on my list, as I enjoyed other entries in that series.
Been playing a ton of Helldivers 2 lately.
FOR DEMOCRACY!
I need to get back to that. For Democracy of course.
You should. Ping me when you're in game. I normally play late nights Mountain time, since I work nights. I'm typically on after 0100. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I can jump on earlier.
Lately, I’m going through the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy from the 2010s.
I own those games but I haven't gotten around to playing them. Do you recommend?
We've been playing alot of Starship Troopers: Extermination, VR Titles ( like Mannequin VR (open beta) and Brazen Blaze VR (free open beta) ), and alot of Rocket League!

I was playing loads of Palworld on release, but haven't touched it in a month+.
Right now, I still play my main game of Rocket League, a little bit of League of Legends on the side, and have been eyeing Hades 2.
You need to start Helldiving with the rest of the cool kids. FOR DEMOCRACY.

I have reinstalled DMC 5 as you can see. Plan on embracing it with a new mindset. Thought it would have been more modern the first time i installed it is all, but i am a big fan of the franchise.
As soon as i beat Nioh, i will install Nioh 2 and Wo Long. Death Stranding is a weird game, but captivating. A sequel already ready for launch next year. I suggest you read the reviews on the Director's Cut.
I will also reinstall Elden Ring once the new DLC is released later this month. With the old save file... Honestly i didn't enjoy it. I happen to be a big souls fan. Played the first and second twice, the third once. Plan on going for a second run on the deluxe with the new DLC.
My favorite part about Elden Ring were essentially the rivers. Hated the bosses. My progression wasn't very advanced mind you, didn't even faced the first big boss. I don't consider Elden Ring a sequel by any means. Hence why it's not called dark souls 4.
A looot of Binding of Isaac Rebirth. Really enjoying the Repentance content. Also revisiting Forza Horizon 5 to check out some of the Hot Wheels stuff added a while back. Very fun
Forza Horizon is a really fun more arcade style driving game. I keep putting it on the back burner, but I will eventually purchase it. The adventure side of the game is really cool.

World War Z: Aftermath - Valley of the Zeke
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Wo long was an epic disappointment, considering it's from the same developers of Nioh and a more recent game. Ride 5 is being a very pleasant surprise. MotoGP 24 and Isle of Man are total crap compared to it. Maybe I'll try Forza Motorsport. Haven't done so yet because of the mixed reviews.
Uninstalled Sekiro as you can see. Overhyped crap. Not because it's hard, but unbalanced. Unpolished. Back 4 blood is pretty average, but i will see whether it will be possible to finish it. Best games on the current ones are clearly Dark Souls III, Nioh, Ride 5 and Witcher 3.
Worst games on the completed ones were A Plague Tale - Requiem, Dead Rising 4, and Devil May Cry 5. Avoid if you can. Best games on the uncompleted are obviously Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring, Forza Horizon 4... That's it fellows. Now, i will tell you which games are more taxing.
For a 5600G + RX 6600 combo (PCIe 3.0), NVME on a 144hz (165hz overdrive) monitor at 1080p, ultra or max settings, driver on quality preset. Remember that drivers can have a significant impact on this.
If a game is not mentioned, just assume it's playable at max settings (with or without, mostly without, raytracing and no upscaling. 1% lows consistently above 50 FPS, with the average comfortably above 60.
Upscaling (FSR or XESS quality, or balanced) was only used on The Witcher 3, Plague Tale - Requiem, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, RoboCop Rogue City, Dying Light 2 and Remnant 2. No fluid motions, or FSR 3 Mod.
Current games:
The Witcher 3 (next gen, 4.04), playable at ultra ou ultra+, FSR quality
Completed:
A Plague Tale - Requiem, medium settings, ultra on VRAM stuff like textures and stuff, balanced upscaling, comfortably around 100 fps.
Alan Wake 2, i actually don't remember much, but it was medium, high, with the January drivers which were terrible for that specific game (10 fps loss), around 60 fps. FSR balanced or high, not sure.
Cyberpunk 2077, ultra, raytracing soft shadows, FSR quality, comfortably above 60 fps, nowadays drivers would hit above 70.
Ghost of Tsushima, was taxing, but was able to keep everything on high, very high, two or three settings on medium, 70 fps average.
Marvel's Guardian of the Galaxy, with raytracing on medium, 50 to 60 fps average, otherwise would do 90 on ultra.
Metro Exodus, because of mandatory raytracing, but comfortably above 69 fps on ultra, raytracing medium.
Ratchet and Clank - Rift Apart, medium settings, high on vram stuff. Poor PC port. Comfortably around 90 fps for the most part.
RoboCop Rogue City, unreal engine 5, everything on max, XESS on balanced, 60 fps average. FSR is broken on this game.
The Last of Us Part 1, mostly everything on high or ultra, 50 to 60 fps average. Use FSR3 antialiasing whenever possible, not to be mistaken with upscaling. Ghost of Tsushima for example has it as well, far superior to TAA.
Use 125% resolution scale for borderlands at 1080p, no volumetric fog. Always check articles, reddit, YouTube for tips, or test each setting by yourself.
Uncompleted games:
Deathloop, Dying Light 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Lords of the Fallen, Remnant 2, Star Wars Fallen Order (1% lows).
Too tired to go into detail, but yeah, the RX 6600 is a beast for 1080p.
I don't think I've ever completed a computer game. Sure, I've reached many levels into them (Serious Sam comes to mind) but I just cannot get that into it. Mostly this is due to my damaged right wrist, but also some games give me a sense of vertigo.
I deal with a messed up wrist too. I do mobility exercises every time I remember to. I swap back and forth between mouse and keyboard, and my Xbox controller. If you are looking for a good game that is less hectic when it comes to controls, try the Plague Tale series. It is really good, and the story pulled hard at my heart strings.
Yikes. Serious Sam looks like some serious crap. There are plenty of games you could play with a damage wrist, or varying range of disabilities. Looking at Detroit Become Human, for example. The quarry, which i haven't tried. The cinematic, multiple choice games.
I have a friend who was a game developer in the 80s and 90s, who's averse to video-games. This reportedly to spending thousands of hours troubleshooting games. I try to get him to try the epic ones like RDR 2, but to no avail. Try using a gamepad instead. Less straining on the wrist. I played all of those with one. XCOM 2 or Divinity Original Sin 2 are others i haven't tried as of yet, even though I finished the first ones of each.
P.S: Watch Dogs 2 is also poorly optimized for modern GPUs. Returnal is taxing, particularly with raytracing, and ready or not, as a result of poor optimization. Also, on Borderlands 3 do not use antialiasing, same for Rage 2.
Top 10 best games of the bunch?
The Witcher 3
Alan Wake 2 (screen should be as big as possible)
Cyberpunk 2077
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Forza Horizon 5
Ghost Of Tsushima (hard, Japanese dialogue)
God of War
Grand Theft Auto V
Red Dead Redemption 2
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Is 8 GB enough for 1080p?
It was for me. Max settings plus raytracing on a more powerful GPU is going to be a problem. Only time i missed having 12 GB of vram was playing Far Cry 6 with HD textures, had to uninstall them and it was a crying shame because the game looked so much better. Like it went from being a 9 to a 7.
EVONY
I'm full on No Lifing the new Destiny 2 expansion "The Final Shape" Best expansion in a very long time and quite well done if you're into Destiny 2
A lot of my friends are into Destiny 2 DLC right now. They are all trying to shoot through the story in time to be done at least for a while when Elden Ring DLC launches.
I’ve been playing a lot of call of duty modern warfare 3
Okay it seems as though i have gone from zero to hero and actually loving Elden Ring. You don't need to go everywhere or grind endlessly. I was able to beat the Groveside Cave boss without taking damage, easily defeating the giants or the entire garrison of soldiers in one go by understanding simple concepts.
Guard counter and skills. Being a Samurai build i also have archery to aid my combat with long range attacks. Again, skills here is a much better use of your arrows with minimal FP expenditure. FP being the single most valuable stat it seems and a safe placement of runes in early game. Parry can also help in specific situations for shields that support it of course.
Another thing that cannot be overlooked, your flasks are refilled as you bring enemies to their demise and there are some magical thingies spread across the map that also replenish them. A massive overhaul from the dark souls mechanics.
Not to mention torrent, your horse, but you don't have to overuse it. Rather learn to incorporate the speed and evasive element to your foot combat. I cannot stress enough that you should start replaying Dark Souls 3 if you haven't done so recently. Major practice for what lies ahead in Elden Ring.

My cozy go-to game that once I have started - I can't stop playing is Baldur's Gate 3. I pop in every few days just to be there.
Except that I have just finished Dead Island 2 and had such a blast that I plan on buying the two DLCs.
I also enjoy Remnant 2 and am thinking about getting the DLCs during the Steam Summer Sale (TOMORROW!!)
On top of that, I slowly build a formicarium in Empires of the Undergrowth and have fun with the Horticular demo waiting for a full release.
I buy games during sales hence the excitement for the Summer Sale but outside of that, I use GG.deals to check on deals. I buy too many games but at least I try to save some money 🙂
