The upcoming RX 9070 XT has the potential to be AMD's 1080 Ti moment

Only time will tell, but I think AMD has the potential start of a GPU dynasty here.

They tempered expectations a while back, saying that they weren't competing in the top-tier segment.
We've had a few leaks showing the RX 9070 XT landing somewhere very close to the RTX 5080 in straight rasterization.
Supposedly, the new 9000-series GPUs drastically improve RT performance, finally bringing AMD up to (or close to) parity with NVIDIA in RT.

Price and whether or not the above is true will decide AMD's 9000-series fate. An extra $50 lower MSRP wouldn't mean much to AMD as a whole, whereas I suspect an extra $50 lower-than-expected price would mean the world to gamers. If they are very aggressive with pricing, and the performance turns out to be as good as or better than the leaks, the 9070 XT may turn out to be AMD's 1080 Ti moment. Wouldn't that be something. 🙂

Yeah, I'm hopeful for a good value.  AMD has been saying that they want to increase market share.  Closing the feature gap (Ray Tracing & Upscaling) at a good dollar per frame price point would make for a pretty solid offering.  I'm holding off on any upgrade decisions until we get 3rd party benchmarks and in-store retail pricing though.

I know that I want one, but at the retail price (or lower).  I won't pay scalpers an extra $200 or $300 just to get one right away.  I can wait a few months.

I really do hope that these new GPUs are well adopted by gamers. I am not sure about the validity of the leaks about the 9000 series, but if they are accurate that would be a game changer. I would also like to see more developers helping to level the GPU playing field and working with as many GPU manufacturers as they can. This includes Intel. More competition at the mid range will help gamers wallets as well as each of the main GPU manufacturers.

In my experience, people around myself don't have the kind of disposable income it takes to keep upgrading every generation. This is true of nearly everyone I know, with a few outliers. A good mid range entry could really boost sales for people who are still on the RTX 20 series, and AMD RX 5000 series.

Finding the right price is going to be hard during the current GPU price and availability vortex.  The MSRP on the Nvidia 5070ti and 5070 seem to only exist in theory, with essentially every sales outlet charging more.  AMD will have to undercut Nvidia even if they achieve feature parity if they want to pull people away from Nvidia.  Do they undercut the MSRP and make gamers happy, or do they undercut retail and make shareholders happy?

It's also hard to quantify how much consumers will value multi-frame generation and neural rendering.  I didn't see any value in Ray Tracing back in the RTX 20 series or DLSS in RTX 30, but a lot of gamers did.  I really don't know how to value new features like that.  Personally, I would avoid Nvidia just because of the 12v connector mess.

Too soon to say, several factors at play here. Specially performance.

If it hits the market at sub 600EURO it will be very good but not "GOLDEN" good. Depends on how much will the 5070ti be.

Right now, i can't see a 4070ti under 900EURO or 4080S (1100) with decent pricing/stock and the best 7900XT is at 750.

During this void, a 550EURO card runing at or near 4080 performance would be a KILLER card, the market would shift fast since a 4060ti is around 420/500 EURO right now.

4080 levels at almost half the price, its a no brainer. But if 5070ti gets a 700EURO price tag.... people will go nvidia again.

We have to wait.

Right now, looking at the coming soon listings at my local Microcenter, the lowest cost RTX 5070 Ti is $900.  I don't think it will be available sub $900, if it is even available at all.
