Well... everything is in the title.
Is it stupid from Radeon POV if they can sell boat/plane loads to Miners for > MSRP?
The sales of RX480/580 to Miners probably saved Radeon from going bust last time Mining Boom happened.
So you either stump up $2000 for an RX6900XT on Ebay or do without I guess.
It is stupid because they could use older architecture, nor rDNA. Releasing mining GPU on 7nm erodes good will of gamers towards them even more, and when it comes to GPUs it is already in dumpster.
Vega 14nm or RX590 on 12nm would not be competitive in Mining today because of power consumption.
I can't disagree, but I will say that the 12 nm process is so mature that it's possible they could bin RX500 chips for maximum performance per watt and sell them. They could be cheaper by eliminating the display outputs. I think it could be a possibility. nVidia is pulling Pascal chips out of storage and re-releasing the 2060
AMD pushed those RX590 out on GF 12nm to fulfill their WSA with GF.
I really cannot see the point in going back to such an old inefficient architecture.
Seems like AMD is laughing all the way to the bank at the moment.
Low suppy to gamers because they sell all they have at high price for AI then Porfessional Radeon Pro and then miners.
Gamers get the dregs and are always last in the queue.
Usual story.
What mining GPUs are 7nm?
