The consumer price of the newly released Radeon 9070/9070XT graphics card in South Korea is being sold at a price far exceeding its MSRP. This price is not determined by market competition but rather by an implicit agreement among AMD’s Korean partner companies, which have a monopoly on product supply.
AMD has made continuous efforts over the past few years to gain a competitive advantage in the gaming market. However, an unattractive pricing policy compared to competing products could weaken the purchasing motivation for Radeon graphics cards, especially when compared to equivalent competitor models.
Of course, there may not be much that can be done in terms of damage control for what has already happened. However, I strongly recommend that AMD headquarters carefully reconsider the pricing policies of its Korean partners and the subsidies AMD provides in the future.
