Simply touching it and leaving a fingerprint smudge will not affect it, the oils on your skin will not cause any problems.

Now if you had thermal paste on your finger and touched it then you would want to clean that off. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean it and allow to dry completely before reinstalling into the socket.

Those gold tiny squares on the side that goes down inside the CPU Sockets are where the "PINS" for the processor in older models use to be. The pins have now been replaced with Tiny gold metallic contact plates instead.

Actually the Pins are on the Motherboard CPU Sockets. If there are any types of smudges on the Gold side of the processor it is best, as mentioned previous reply, to clean it gently with 90% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol or Denature Alcohol to remove all smudges and oils on the surface. This will provide a clean contact surface for when you install the processor.

Make sure you don't damage any of those Gold tine squares or you may end up with a paperweight.
