Hello AMD Community! I'm embarking on an exciting project to build a high-performance, future-proof AI desktop computer for home use, and I'd love your input and advice. Here's what I'm aiming for: Project Goals:

  • Powerful AI  with deep learning capabilities
  • 10+ year lifespan with easy upgradability
  • Linux-based with open-source software
  • Local, on-board processing with an home and personal AI assistant

Current Component Choices:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9
  • Motherboard: Considering ASRock X670E Steel Legend or MSI PRO X670-P WIFI for multiple PCIe slots
  • GPU: something like AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • RAM: 64GB (aiming for future expansion to 256GB)
  • Storage: Mix of PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 NVMe SSDs
  • AI Accelerator: Coral M.2 Accelerator with Dual Edge TPU
  • Additional: Integrating up to 3 Raspberry Pi 5 (for xLSTM, security, I.o.T)

Software Stack:

  • OS: Linux
  • AI/ML: TensorFlow/PyTorch
  • Local AI Assistant: open source

I'm particularly interested in:

  1. Motherboard recommendations for maximum expandability
  2. Advice on optimizing for AI/ML workloads
  3. Cooling solutions for this high-performance setup
  4. Any potential compatibility issues I should be aware of
  5. Suggestions for future-proofing this build

Your expertise and insights would be invaluable in refining this project. Thanks in advance for your help! #AMDCommunity #AIBuild #FutureProof #OpenSource #localAIassistant

questions:
dedicated NPU (on internal Raspberry Pi 5)?

are there  ai- virtualizers out , which can depict and/or 3d-render chosen hardware?
(virtual desktop pc building studio, online?)
are there performance calculators or data processors for chosen hardware, with failure detectors?
(to calculate if this xxx-processor and that xxx-mainboard makes sense/ is working optimal with that special xxx-gpu, or to propose: for this cpu on that mainboard with that ram this kind of gpu is recommended for this worksstation, and will require that additional components)

hello !
are there some  AMD hardware nerds? looking out of the box and open to new and diverse visions of PC-culture?
I just want someone who can verify my ideas and mention handicaps/problems

I would like to assemble a powerful, future-oriented, and secure desktop computer for low-threshold home use with an AI-supported personal assistant, based on a self-optimizing Linux operating system and open-source software.

The PC should function as an interface and workhorse; have IoT and home automation onboard, and also host my emerging DIY academy for art and the future, securely shielded from the outside.

Regarding hardware, certain preferred specifications are to be considered.

Based on my research and the requirements for a powerful, future-oriented AI desktop system, online AI suggests the following components:

  • Motherboard:  X670E
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X (preferred)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (24GB GDDR6) or others suitable for better workflow and ML/AI computations
  • RAM: 64GB (4x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30, potentially expandable up to 256GB
  • Storage: System 1TB SSD
  • AI Accelerators/Special Features:
    • 1x Coral M.2 Accelerator with Dual Edge TPU
    • Up to 3x Raspberry Pi 5 integrated  (in PCIe expansion cards): 1x as dedicated home security, 1x for alternative language modules (xLSTM), 1x IoT
  • Power Supply: ? (ATX 3.0 compatible)
  • Case: ?
  • Cooling: Air cooling
