just chiming in on this one, I too have the problem with all driver versions, seems to be all RX cards, very disappointing AMD H264 decoding is fundamental to a PC's operation.

The silence is deafening here AMD ? Talk to us .....can you at least acknowledge there is a problem?

This is a user-to-user forum.
If you are having a problem with your graphics card or a particular game...Please report it to AMD. Keep in mind that the more reports sent to the Catalyst engineers, the more attention paid. This is the only way things get fixed. Note that all issues must be reproducible (this is why specific information is required), and submitting a "Issue Report" is not a invitation to a dialog with AMD. Don't expect a reply. Just report it and encourage others to do the same.
Every driver download has this statement:
AMD Issue Reporting Form
- This driver release incorporates suggestions received through the AMD Issue Reporting Form. To provide us with your feedback, visit the AMD Issue Reporting Form.
doh really, we hadnt thought of reporting a fault with and AMD card to AMD, silly us....
Yes it is a user forum but its populated with tech engineers like amdmatt who should really be doing something other than, nothing, perhaps he's on a sabbatical.
Who knows what you thought of? All we know is what you share in your post. Obviously, not many people have your issue...(or you probably would be overwhelmed with responses) so I know where my money would go as to the real problem.
Matt, and the others are forum moderators. Get it? They are here mainly to keep the idiots off the airways. Where did you read they are AMD engineers? This is their job, and like most people with jobs, it's not 24/7.
So good luck with your problem. Have a nice day.
do you even bother to check you facts or are you just a lazy troll, yes this is rhetorical, look at AMDMATT, sig he's a technical support engineer.
Yep, your right. I am the troll.

still not working with 16.9.1 hotfix driver, AMD are really taking the piss now, dont understand why this isn't big news, this MAJOR flaw in a graphics card and its effecting all RX versions, whats going on????, the tech websites are totally silent about this.
also note, its not a LAV filter issue as kodi jarvis also has identical issue which uses FFMPEG filters.
Not only H264, but HEVC / H265 decoding is not working too.
In fact, it seems that perhaps any hardware video decoding is faulty on the RX series.
Some answers would be welcome
Yes H264 is not working. Have not tried 16.9.1 driver yet.
However h.265 definetly works. On my HTPC if I turn off DXVA for h.265 I can hardly get a picture, with DXVA turned on I can watch UHD from ASTRA 2E perfectly.
What are you using to view HEVC content ?
I use DVBviewer and that works (with LAV filter)
all my h265 HEVC stuff plays fine, its only H264 stuff that has the problem, most of that plays ok if I just leave it but if I skip along it gets horribly corrupted.
Edit, as I wasnt getting any corruption with h265 I didnt actually check to see if this was working, i'll check this tonight, my CPU is beefy so it might be doing all the H265 on that.
If both arent working then that's even worse, frankly amazed AMD are getting away with this.
My CPU is AMD Phenom 6 so not up to doing anything like HEVC decoding, so in my case RX480 does the HEVC decoing and very little GPU load, very impressive.
Anyone tried 16.9.1 yet ?
yeah, pretty sure my H265 is also working, sure this is just H264, will check tonight to be sure.
