Ryzen 7 3700x - High idle temperature & 90 °C after 10mins of gaming

Hey guys,

I apologise for asking a question which has been answered many times.

I've recently built a new system using these parts:

Gigabyte Geforce RTX 2080 Super

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with the delivered stock cooler

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus

16 GB RAM

The CPU idle temperature is about 50 °C, but it's about 40 from time to time, but mostly at ~ 50 °C. After 10 minutes of gaming, the temperature is at 90 °C, measured with MSI Afterburner.

I don't know what to do now. Is this normal or is that definitely not good? What could be the problem? Is it maybe the cooler which may not be enough?

NB: I'm very new in this subject, so please have some patience with me .

Yes 90c is too high for gaming.

I would try re-mounting the CPU cooler.

There are plenty of youtube tutorials on how to apply thermal past if you are not sure.

Sometimes the cooler just isn't seated properly and hence the high temperatures.

Remove your CPU cooler and clean up the mess

place a very small amount of MX-4 on the CPU and wipe it with an old bank card

put the cooler back and power cycle cold and on a few times to allow the MX-4 to thermal pump and set
