AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D Horizontal Glitches

Hi all. I recently built my first PC and installed a 7900X3D and Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+.

When playing games I get a strange horizontal glitch that rides up and down the screen as I turn the camera. This happens in all games. I’ve fiddled with settings in Adrenalin and within the games themselves, I’ve capped frame rates to stop screen tear, I’ve played around with Vsync, driver updates, BIOS updates… I’ve tried everything I know how to, but my knowledge isn’t extensive when it comes to this stuff.

I found one post on Reddit which appeared to be about the same issue I’m having. After messaging the post author he told me that he ended up replacing the CPU as it was faulty, after which he no longer had the glitch.

Can anyone shed some light on this please? I’m praying I don’t have to replace the CPU, but if I do I’d like to sort it sooner rather than later. I’ve linked a video in which I hope you can see the issue I’m having.

Thanks for any help!

BeardO, the video only says 'Awaiting Approval.' List all your parts, OS and tell us if you are using the iGPU or the GPU. John.

Sorry, I’ll have to upload it elsewhere and leave a link.

Parts are:

Sapphire RX 7900 XTX Nitro+ Vapor-X
Ryzen 9 7900 X3D

Asrock X870 Pro RS WiFi

Kingston NV3 NVMe PCIe 4.0 1TB M.2 x 2

MAG A850 GL

Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB

Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix

Windows 11 Pro

I’m unsure what you mean by “iGPU or the GPU”. Is iGPU the internal one? If so, I’m plugging the HDMI into the GPU itself, and have set that to be the main one.

Dont know if it’s of any relevance, but I’ve also swapped between a few HDMI cables to make sure that wasn’t faulty.

Thanks, BeardO, I can see some pixelating at the front and really strange artifacts at the end but no horizontal glitches. Right, the iGPU is the internal one. Have you tried it? If you have any applications from your MB vendor, uninstall them and post a screenshot of Ryzen Master (RM) during the time of the problem. John.

I say horizontal glitches, but they could be either of the the things you mentioned. This is my first gaming PC build and I’m still getting to grips with all the terminology!

I haven’t tried the iGPU yet, but would that not affect the quality? I thought it was always better to plug directly into the GPU.

I don’t think I have any apps installed from Asrock if that’s what is meant by MB vendor.

I’ll try get a screenshot a little later and post it. Just out at the minute.

I forgot to add, when I was first trying to diagnose the problem, dropping the resolution and having the game windowed fixed the issue and the games ran perfectly. As soon as I put the game into full screen again though, the issues came back.

I appreciate you giving the time to try solve this, John!

BeardO, I am mainly curious about the iGPU. You are correct that the GPU should work better. It would be useful to ask the GPU support about your problem. Share the video with them and see what they say. Looks like you have a top end GPU. John.

Righto, I’ll share it over there too. The only reason I originally posted it here is because the only mention of the same problem pointed in the direction of it being the CPU at fault.

I'll give the iGPU a go soon, and mention it to the GPU group now.

Cheers!

Hi John.

Just thought I’d let you know that I sussed out the problem, and embarrassingly it was a problem with how I had the frame rates set up.

Refresh rate in windows was different to everything else, and on top of that I had FMF2 and FRTC enabled within Adrenalin. Switched off FMF2, capped at 60fps (I need a new TV…) everywhere and now there’s no more ugliness.

Appreciate you taking the time to offer help. Thank you.
