9700X Operating Temperatures

Hi, I have a SFF build and used the 9700X for efficiency.

Seem to be having no problems but just wanted to check something. My cooling is pretty bad given I had to get a very small cooler - Noctua L9i for AM5.

I did a multi-core cinebench benchmark and got 1004. Max temperature was 76c. Then, I manually put in this chip's TjMax (95c) to my BIOS and reran the test. Temperature topping at 89c, cinebench score of 1117.

Now, given the TjMax is 95, when under full load the temperature topping out at 89 degrees is fine right? My CPU idles at 50-60 degrees but I have heard this is kinda par for the course with this cpu - esp given I have a SFF build.

My assumption is I can't harm anything too bad without overclocking as if it gets too hot it will just power down anyway, but even under full load in every core for 10 mins it never reached 90c.

Thanks!

Seems pretty good for a SFF build, if I would guess, you would be averaging around 70ish during gaming, and thats absolutely fine.

Good luck

Yep, from what I could see CPU was about 65-70 yesterday. Might be a bit higher since I set the TjMax as the actual maximum and not whatever the motherboard decided. Yet to test, but if I have any problems I guess I can just switch it back to auto where it never exceeded  76 degrees.

Thanks!

I have also bought 9700X due to its high efficiency and I have similar problem with high idling temps, but I have much larger cooler, capable up to 220W CPUs. I have repasted and reseated cooler to exclude my error while mounting 1st time.

Tctl/Tdie are always over 50. More suprising, Cores are cooler, but cores 0, 1 are about 40, but 6 and 7 are near 30-35.

While stressing CPU with games or prime95, all thermals are about the same 70-75 with random spikes to 80.

also I have ryzen 5 5600g with same paste and cooler and idles at 40.

Might be relevant - I’m running this on X670 elite ax by aorus with OC ram, with stock cpu settings

failedOnTeamBlue3, please post all your components and a screenshot of Ryzen Master (RM) running Cinebench R24 Multicore (images of RM only). Third party temperature utilities are often wrong. Always good to post a screenshot of utility outputs. John.
