Is AMD going to acknowledge black screen crashes on 7000 series ? More than 200 reports

The silence of AMD concerning the black/green screen crashes is getting concerning.

r/amdhelp, r/radeon subreddits and this forum are riddled with reports about this issue. A few examples among many many others :

Some people get the same issue after RMA. Very nice to wait 3 weeks without gpu when you spent more than 500€, only to receive a new gpu with the same issue. Even worse : you receive the same gpu because the seller can't reproduce the problem.

So, what do we do ?

Now, not to undermine the issue at hand, as I myself have had problems with my RX 7900 XTX and have had to get a refund, but I stumbled upon a video that might actually fix the problem for some people, and if it does, then we know where to direct our anger. Also, please let me know if it works.

Hope so, issues are widespread for sure. Still unclear if it's hardware or software related.

As consumers we need to make a bigger deal of this continue to post these updates of crashes so amd is forced to fix these issues. I literally bought a 7800xt last Tuesday and have been having non stop crashing issues even after taking all steps and getting new components.

I have excactly the same issues.Bought the card on 4th of October. Has it for roughly a week and a half without problems .Was playing Squad on a regular with solid results on epic settings. When adrenalin 23.11.1 update was out and i updated to it all hell broke .Done numerous stress tests changed every part in pc ,clean windows install, used ddu and reverted to previous adrenalin version didn't update windows to 23h2 and stick with 22h2 like i did everything possible to no avail. Squad crashes at loading screen.Ready or not crash as soon as i press the play single mode .GPU doesn't even load to actual game so i dont think it gets any load at all.Funny thing is only Dayz seem to play smoothly. Is it maybe a problem with newer graphic engines ?I am on the verge of rma the card and go to Nvidia am so disappointed . I believe its a software issue/conflict that driver cant manage the gpu.But if thats the case why i still get crashes with stock 23.9.x drivers that 7800 launched with after clean ddu and clean windows install ? Am baffled. P.S: Using premiere pro runs smoothly and export aswell .

Pretty much the same experience on my end. Kinda shocked we haven't seen any fixes or statements from AMD yet. I had the card running nearly 100% back in September, but now after countless trouble shooting efforts I simply cannot get it stable.

Word of advice guys, as someone who unfortunately switched to AMD after using NVIDIA all my life, the next time you upgrade... go for Nvidia, trust me. Too many issues, no support or acknowledgement from AMD and I'm stuck with this RX 7800 XT that I can't return because there's "no defect". Awful brand.

Only thing to do is to switch to Nvidia. People getting banned in games for using AMD software was nail in the coffin. I'm hearing about AMD problems everywhere: from friends, youtube reviews, news, this forum etc. It's unacceptable.

Guess you are going to ignore the bans of usdes with Nvidia G Force now,  ohh you just forgot?...

Just so you have something to read

I also got the same issue with my 7800x. And the black screen crash to restart, it happens random, sometimes i can play a videogame for a whole weekend without a issue, the next week, it will happen when using Adobe Premiere Pro, not encoding, just working.

I have updated my PSU, CPU, ram, nothing changed.

After using dddu method and only using driver install I went down to one crash a day it only happens on world of Warcraft now. Crashed 3 times today feels bad man

Same issue here with my Sapphire 7800XT Pure. AMD needs to fix this.

I don't get it THAT often. With the older driver I could get int in Win just browsing the web, but now it is when playing PUBG only, and usually once in the first game, then I restart and reconnect and then I can play the rest of the day.

AMD needs to address this topic asap. The news about the crashes are making it through the gaming/hardware forums.

I have gone back to 32.9.1 drivers, and so far, for three days, no crashes.

did it work so far?

what drivers did u go back to?  32.9.1 isnt a correct driver number

i of course meant 23.9.1, only today i had a new crash. Strangely, when new drivers arrived.

The issue is related to SAM and/or Freesync

No its not. I have neither SAM nor Freesync.

It's not.

When I experience crashes on my xfx 6900xt, turning off SAM in Radeon stops them. The most recent title this happened with was Returnal. These crashes happen with demanding or poorly optimized titles.

7900 XTX and I use it a lot. Zero crashes besides the crashes I had when looking for a stable overclock, which is a normal part of finding the highest overclock that is perfectly stable.

I have the XFX 7900XTX. It uses a lot of power so it would not surprise me if some of these issues are related to the PSU. I would check the 12 volt rail, see if it goes out of spec during high video card load.

It's not a driver issue as I have always used the latest driver without any crashes or issues. I am actually pleasantly surprised with the Adrenalin package compared to the Nvidia Gforce now package. I have both, and I find Adrenalin the better software package.

I have zero preference towards AMD or NVIDIA. Just giving my personal opinion.

Tested a Dark Power pro 11 850w and a Pure Power 12 M 1000W so no its not the psu in most cases. Many many people changed their complete hardware with psu only to realise in the end that its the graphics card.

It's not a PSU problem. I also use the 7900XTX and with many games I actually limit the FPS to 120. Because of this, the card usually doesn't use more than 85% of it's power, in my case. But with certain games, like WoW, it just goes black. I checked if it's an overlay issue, but it isn't as I switched all of that stuff off. So, no power issue, no overlay issue, no max performance issue. Around the 23.9 versions I hadn't had any of these problems, but when I now DDU and go back to those versions the problem persists. To be fair, I would also not be surprised if the latest Windows updates messed something up, as that is also not the first time..

new driver didnt fix this problem (DDU and driver only install) and no reaction from AMD.

I changed my whole hardware and its the same everytime: The system crashes only with this card and only if i am playing a game with youtube on the 2nd monitor.

Maybe its time to move on after 20 years of red graphics cards

Gigabyte 7800XT.

Independent technician couldn't replicate the issue, PSU is working perfectly, everything else just works with my old NVIDIA GPU.

Cold starting the GPU ends in a bootloop with a VGA light on, have to restart it 3 or 4 times to get it working.

If AMD doesn't address this until the end of the year, I am returning the GPU.

I have been on 23.9.1, seems to be still the most stable drivers, I'm also on drivers only, so far for more than 7 days, no system crash. I wish they released Pro Drivers for the 7000 series, so far, we have not received them.

Latest driver causes crashes on my 7900XTX, resulting in black screens and driver reboots. It was logged in the Windows event log as a display driver time-out. It's not an issue with my system as returning to the previous driver has halted the issue.

It's also not an issue with my system in general as during the crash my music kept playing on without an issue, and after the driver recovery I could jump back into my game without issues.

I did prior to this happening turn on Adaptive Sync (which really made zero difference and was just me trying to see any difference) in the Adrenalin software. I now stick with AMD Freesync Pro only.

Game was Diablo IV, drivers that cause the issue were 23.12.1. I am now using drivers version 23.11.1 without any issues to report.

Sorry to bump old thread. But i have to. Cause idk where to complain again. I have Blackscreen issue on my RX 6800 XT since may. RMA the card twice until the manufacture accept my RMA to change the unit. Everything's allright from july and then november Blackscreen haunt me again. Every method i try to fix my problem from the internet no avail. I am so tired of this **bleep** and planning to sold my gpu and change to nvidia instead cause i dont have this problem before with my GTX 1660 Super and RTX 2060 with the same system.

I have something that might help you. I have a Rx 6950 xt (xfx merc) with the same issues. Seemingly random black screens in games, red dead 2 is good at replicating the issue for me.

I have now tried:

CPU, mobo, PSU upgrade. Went from i5-13600k to 7800x3d. PSU from AX 760 to be quiet straight power 12 1200 watt.

Nothing helped the issue.

Complete OS reinstall (no internet and no windows update drivers) didn't fix it either.

But what so far seem to be stable is:

Minimal AMD driver install. No adrenaline software. You choose "minimal" under the driver installation.

I use Asus GPU tweak 3 tool to undervolt. MSI afterburner also seem to crash my GPU with the minimali driver installed, hence my worries that it will crash with Asus GPU tool too.

Try it, it might work.

I'll leave my pc on with red dead 2 while away tomorrow. It will be left for 7 hours on its own, it will usually crash within that time if the issue is present.

Also. Don't overclock the memory. Only undervolt. I have mine at 2500mhz at 1150v. That's the only settings. Don't use the osd thing in Asus GPU tweak tool, just disable it.

Still crashing... Ffs... I'm contacting the seller.

The issues was memory overclocking!

2280mhz and above caused the black screen system reset. It seems to have stabilized with no memory overclocking.

The odd thing is, many who have the same black screens tried no memory overclocking and even underclocking, but it did not fix it, for me as well. But strangely, with the 23.12.1 drivers, i have not had a single black screen crash in 2 weeks!

Well mine stopped crashing too. Might as well have been the new driver like you mention. I really really hope this will fix it long term... 🥺

I am so happy to see this post and accept that I am not the only one who is dealing with this issue. It seems to be that during the last 5 or 6 GPU driver updates some bad code was sent out causing major issues that basically deadline GPU's and user experience. Like right now after 24.1.1 nothing I do has fixed the issue with my GPU and I can no longer play any game on my PC without crashing to black screen with the music still going in the background. warranting a hard shut down of the PSU to revive the system. Looking at my stats it seems my GPU is being throttled to 100 percent when I should not be close to running that hard. the CPU is running at MAX temp and boom crash every time. No matter how many ddu driver roll backs I perform or regardless of fresh window installs; hell I even completely wiped all my SSD's in an attempt to erase whatever bad code was installed after downloading 24.1.1. I can no longer game on my 7900 XTX red devil without the GPU crashing the system..... AMD?

Now, not to undermine the issue at hand, as I myself have had problems with my RX 7900 XTX and have had to get a refund, but I stumbled upon a video that might actually fix the problem for some people, and if it does, then we know where to direct our anger. Also, please let me know if it works.
