Is This a Counterfeit or Authentic AMD RX580?

I ordered a GPU and received it to realize this vendor isn't listed in the authorized GPU manufacturers on AMD's website.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002651135364.html?gps-id=pcStoreJustForYou&scm=1007.23125.137358...

The box and GPU that came did not have AMD on them anywhere, even though the title, specifications, and descriptions of this product all said AMD Rx580 GPU.

I also realized that the specifications do not match my other XFX Rx580 GPUs(which are listed a manufacturer). The stream processors is showing as 2048 and the Pixel Fill Rate is 37.8 Gpix/s and Texture Fillrate is 151.0 GTex/s. But the Rx580 has different specs: https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/radeon-rx-580

Is this a legitimate manufacturer of AMD GPUs or is this a counterfeit product?

Thank you.

Ali Express is something similar to ebay where many obscure Retailers or Foreign Retailers sells their merchandise.

Possibly you received a counterfeit or used or a foreign made RX580. Either way most likely any warranty is voided if is a used or counterfeit GPU card.

Looks like Veinida is a Foreign company that makes AMD GPU cards. Newegg has a RX550 for sale from that company: https://www.newegg.com/p/1DW-00B1-000R4

elstaci_0-1626104996694.png

Also this Phillipines Company SHOPEE also sells that same VEINIDA RX 580: https://shopee.ph/Desktop-computer-host-e-sports-game-graphics-card-Veineda-RX580-8GB-Graphics-Cards...

Download and run GPU-Z and then at the top left corner under "LOOKUP" click on that and see which GPU it shows. Upload an image of GPU-Z in your next reply for everyone to look at.

Also compare the BIOS version from Ali Express with the BIOS version you have on your legitimate RX 580 also compare Hardware ID's and all other specs to each other.

But it does look like you got a legitimate RX 580 but it was manufactured by VEINIDA unless someone sold you a counterfeit VEINIDA GPU card.

I don't have the time right now to reinstall this gpu on my windows pc, but this is from their advertisement:

gpu-z-veineda-card.jpg

Many of the points do not match the rx580 like the Shaders(Stream Processors), the GPU Clock, etc. In fact, it matches closer to the Rx 470 or Rx 570. There is an Unknown for the Digital Signature. And the subvendor is listed as AMD/ATI. That's strange. Usually that should be where the manufacturer is listed, like Sapphire or XFX.

The TMUs are off, too.

Here is what a normal GPU-Z looks like for the RX580: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/is-that-rx-580-original-bios.262011/

I don't think Newegg listing them necessarily legitimizes them as not a counterfeit. If they are not listed on AMD's website as a manufacturer for any GPUs, that would seem like a good indicator as to their authenticity.

According to here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-55

The subsystem vendor ID 1002 is for AMD. Veineda is not listed as any manufacturer in the list.

Your link to NewEgg actually doesn't mention "AMD" anywhere in the advertisement. Any company can string some letters and numbers together and call it a GPU. But I think that actually helps my point that the NewEgg listing makes zero mention of AMD.

About the Subvendor, ATI was a company that produced semiconductors and was acquired by AMD 15 years ago. Then they phased the ATI brand out back in 2010.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATI_Technologies

So it basically doesn't exist anymore. That's very odd to list "AMD/ATI" as the subvendor instead of your own company's name. Kind of like they are checking if we're stupid or something.

The Hardware ID does indicate a RX 580 2048SP:

Also a major Retailer like Newegg would be careful not to sell counterfeit products unless like Amazon it is sold through its Marketplace where anyone can sell products without going through Amazon or Newegg.

Found at Tom's Hardware that a Chinese AMD company is selling a RX 570 as a RX 580 2048SP which is the same Hardware ID your RX 580 has: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-radeon-rx-580-2048sp,37933.html

According to GPU-Z you have a RX 580 2048SP which according to the linked article above is really a RX 570 GPU Card.

Quote from above article:

"In AMD's defense, the company has every right to name its products however it sees fit. Technically, AMD isn't wrong. A Radeon RX 570 8GB is essentially a Radeon RX 580 with 256 less Stream Processors so calling it a Radeon RX 580 2038SP is valid in a way. We have to applaud AMD for its creativity. But some will think it's a shady move on AMD's part for pulling a fast one on less tech-savvy consumers."

It is possible that Veinida is a Chinese company that produces  AMD GPU cards.

So it doesn't look like you have a counterfeit but a Rebranded RX 570 GPU card by a Foreign manufacturer.

EDIT: But if you still feel you have a counterfeit GPU card then I would try to get your money back from Ali Express or the Retailer.

Referring to third party sources, that also make no mention Veineda, does not make the case that this is an authentic AMD GPU manufacturer.

First, the link at the top of the article to the AMD Chinese website is identical to the AMD English website for the rx580 specs. Only difference being the Chinese version is in Chinese.

Second, AMD already lists Chinese companies that manufacture GPUs and Veineda is not one of them.

Third, if you are going to pay big $$$ to be part of a franchise, why would you not put the brand on your box and GPU? Why avoid putting the AMD brand on the Newegg listing?

Lastly, took apart the card and found the chip number is 216-0886164.

These can be bought for around $45 on chip websites. (I put new thermal paste before reassembling. )

That may solve the issue of whether there exists a rx580 2048 card, but nothing in that article talked about Veineda.

If a company is going to spend big money for the AMD brand, why would they not put it on their box and on the GPU? Why would they not put AMD on the NewEgg listing? That's a big red flag. Aside from the fact that AMD lists Chinese companies in their Manufacturer's list and Veineda isn't one of them.

Newegg does not list it as an AMD product. That's the main difference. You can make a card called John's generic Rx580 or whatever you want to call it. And you could sell that at any website that wants to list it. But once you use the AMD brand, you better be licensed by them. My contention is they are advertising this card as an AMD rx580 while not licensed by them, and that, be definition, is counterfeit.

Okay then see if you can get your money back then.

Good luck.

By the way, Venida is a Chinese company but according to this article Venida is suspect in selling GPU cards when they may be poor quality hardware: https://graphicscardhub.com/chinese-fake-graphics-card/

The article gives you the Chinese GPU manufacturers that are Legit or Trusted and Venida is not one them. So you are probably correct it might be a fake. If it is I doubt you will get your money back.

The article also shows  you how to spot a fake chinese GPU card.

EDIT: The GPU card could still be legitimate except being manufactured with very poor quality.

In the future before making an expensive hardware purchase research the product and try to find Customers and tech reviews and go to the website if they have one. Especially those sold on Marketplaces or Ebay or Ali Express. Review the Retailer that you are going to purchase from and see if they have a good record with other customers or not. Also purchase from reputable Retailers.

When I purchase an expensive hardware I always try to find Tech reviews and Customer's Reviews like in Amazon or Newegg etc. Normally I generally check the one star reviews to see if I see anything common. I also go to the website and check to see if the Retailer has good reviews  from the Customer if not from a major Retailer like Amazon or Newegg or Walmart etc.

Otherwise chalk this up as a learning experience for the future if you can't get your money back. I don't know if Ali Express has its own type of Guarantee if you purchase a bad product from their website. You will need to contact their Customer Support.

You also dispute the Credit Card charge with the Credit Card company or with the company you used to pay, like PayPal, for the GPU card.

I took another look at the Newegg advertisement. You are correct it doesn't mention AMD anywhere but it has a image of a AMD Sticker on the GPU card.

Also Newegg is a Chinese owned Retailer which explains why they sell that GPU card.

If you look at the Customer's reviews for the actual company that sell that GPU at Newegg it has a horrible rating of 32% positive experience.

In my opinion, if the GPU card you bought would be a "Fake" if:

1- The GPU Chip is not made by AMD or is the wrong AMD Chip for that model.

2- The GPU card was sold as a RX 580 but is actually a much older GPU card model or different model of GPU card.

3-Since the Advertisement never mentions AMD then the company wasn't trying to deceive anyone since it never mentions that it is an actual authorized AMD GPU Card even though it gives that impression since only AMD manufactures RX GPU cards.  So I guess it was deceiving in that respect.

I just realized that I forgot to link their "AMD Global & System Builder Partners Contact Information":

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-91

"The companies listed below utilize AMD Radeon Graphics Processing Units (GPU), and Wonder chip technology to develop graphics card products.  Not all are available for a given global region."

As an example of what an authorized manufacturer card reseller's post on Newegg looks like: https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-radeon-rx-5500-xt-gv-r55xtoc-4gd/p/N82E16814932356

Notice they put AMD on the front of the box and list AMD as the manufacturer in the specifications. Gigabyte is based in China and is listed in the link above as an authorized manufacturer.

Regarding the chip, I took a picture of the main chip inside:

You can actually buy this chip on several websites for around $45 or less: https://www.yoycart.com/Product/601074674135/
