After installing the latest driver, color cycle

Just bought new setup today, installing the drivers is causing pains.

As soon as the software is "finishing" the installation screen goes black, white, red, green, blue and the cycle keeps on going. Tried re-installing drivers, keeps happening constantly, rebooting does not help either. Can replicate at will by trying to install drivers using AMDs own tools "win10-64bit-radeon-software-adrenalin-2019-edition-19.7.2-july16" or "radeon-software-adrenalin-2019-19.7.2-minimalsetup-190716_web".

Cannot find anything on the forums or by googling (other than a video where they advice to re-install drivers, not working)

Card works without drivers some what, hence I'm able to write this post, but shows in device manager as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter".

OS: Win 10 Pro

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X

GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT 8G

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3200 Mhz 32Gt

MB: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi AM4 ATX

Additional troubleshooting done:
Tried re-seating GPU and RAMs, no change in behaviour.

Tried updating chipset, no change in behaviour.

Noticed that chipset update has higher version number than the GPU drivers for the Radeon Software.

-EDIT-

With even more troubleshooting I have found something:

I'm using Acer XZ321Q 31,5" display that is 144Hz with FreeSync.

If I use FreeSync and set the display to 144Hz the colour cycle starts.

If I turn off FreeSync and set the display to 60Hz from Windows, the image is shown.

This issue wasn't present with my NVIDIA GTX970 from which I upgraded.

The issue is tied to the DisplayPort, when using HDMI I can get 144Hz, Displayport will start the color cycle if put to anything above 60Hz.

Were you ever able to figure out how to get this working?  I'm having issues with my display which I had no issues with on my GTX 970 as well.  I have it setup as follows: Monitor --> DVI --> DVI Adapter --> 5700.  This, no matter what I do, will display the Colors and the display is only detected at 640x480.  I can't adjust anything about the display either.

Hi mate,

Yes and no.. Not sure, so many things changed and tested that I'm not sure

what has resolved what or if there is even a correlation/causation between

all of the things I've done.

But I have not had this color cycle since I found a driver that does not do

it for me.

Main things I've done:

1. I just waited for new drivers to come about and once found stable

version have not updated since. <- This was the solution I found, re-rolled

updates, kept the one that did not cycle colors and waited for 2 or 3 new

updates before testing them.

2. I had this issue first on my Freesync screen constantly, but changing

from HDMI to DisplayPort fixed the constant color cycle. <- I wonder if

this might help you as well?

3. In the beginning before I found a stable driver, when the color cycle

started I pulled the cable from the PC and put it back in. This sometimes

this "reset" the channel or something and the image returned for a while.

I also sometimes had the issue of everything turning to green hue, but that

was addressed by one of the driver updates I think as I have not seen that

for a while.

System is still not completely stable but have not able to find what causes

issues. All I know is that sometimes the GPU crashes, I can still hear game

sounds, talk to people over Discord, but screens lose signal. Not sure if

related to the early color cycle thingie or not.

There still might be some mismatch in my system as Im not that proficient

with the builds but it should be fine....

Sorry for being so vague and possibly confusing. But as said in the

beginning, I'm not really sure if I fixed it or not.
