AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series Processors Offer Working Professionals Up to 45% More Battery Life for Video Conferencing

By Matt Unangst

Over the past two years, the pace of PC technology innovation accelerated to keep professional teams connected, productive and secure.

While developments in video conferencing and collaboration tools will continue to play a large role in the hybrid journey back to the workplace, we expect other features such as battery life to become more important than ever.

The shift is here to stay

IT decision-makers and professionals have different expectations for their business laptops than they did two years ago. Today, employees want the best experience, all-day battery life and cutting-edge connectivity.

AMD is uniquely positioned to help laptop OEMs meet professionals where their expectations are, and we are laser focused on delivering leadership solutions. To continue to push the envelope, earlier this year, AMD announced its latest Ryzen PRO 6000 Series processors and refreshed Ryzen PRO 5000 Series processors.

Today, new data from AMD shows that the Ryzen 6000 PRO Series processors - with 8 high performance 6nm “Zen 3+” cores and enhanced AMD RDNA 2 graphics - demonstrate up to 17% faster performance than the competition[i] when using MS Office apps such as PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook while simultaneously running Microsoft Teams conferencing. Even better still, laptops run on our latest processors experience up to 45% longer battery life for Microsoft Teams conferencing compared to the competition[ii]. It’s great to see that systems powered by Ryzen PRO 6000 processors do not require a compromise between leadership performance and battery life.

Innovation for a better tomorrow

We’ve made strong progress in our commitment to efficiency advancements with our mobile processors demonstrating up to a 50% power reduction since 2018[iii] and our desktop processors using up to 67% less watts per core[iii].  Powered by leadership technology, AMD is enabling our customers to realize breakthrough performance, and breakthrough power efficiency. AMD is uniquely positioned to offer this capability to our customers.

Additionally, we’re happy to support partners like Lenovo who are committed to reducing impact on the environment as they engineer new devices such as the AMD exclusive ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 with sustainable materials such as recycled aluminum or recycled black vegan leather and strive for a transparent origin of components.

Security threats are on the rise

Despite all this innovation, we also saw new threats emerge as cybercrimes increased during the COVID-19 pandemic

With security threats compounding, CIOs, CISOs and IT decision-makers have a bigger challenge than ever before, which is why our team at AMD created AMD PRO technologies to deliver a set of features focused on security, wireless manageability and system stability.

Available on every Ryzen PRO processor, AMD PRO technologies provides leaders with confidence to keep their organizations protected and their employees productive, while supporting a distributed workforce.  AMD PRO Technologies represents an industry-wide partnership, where AMD is working with Microsoft and our OEM partners to deliver increasingly protected solutions.  With security threats expected to continue to grow, AMD is committed to, and continues to demonstrate strong innovation around the security solutions on Ryzen PRO processors.

AMD commercial business outlook

In addition to the next generation of HP EliteBooks and Lenovo ThinkPads, which will be powered by AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series processors, you’ll find Ryzen PRO inside many other business laptops, Chromebooks, desktops and workstations alike with over 20% more platforms coming in 2022 than last year. In partnership with our OEM providers, which also include Acer, Asus and Dell, AMD continues to deliver leadership Commercial platforms, addressing the new needs for business users and IT departments.

At AMD, we promise to keep innovating and are committed to delivering the best commercial solutions in the market.

[ii] Based on testing by AMD as of 4/1/22. Battery life evaluated in hours using a nine participant Microsoft Teams video conference with camera on, 200 nit brightness, slider position AC#2 (Balanced), with 95% utilization. Battery life results normalized for battery capacity differences. System configuration for Intel® Core ™i7 1260P CPU/GPU performance: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, 57 watt hour battery, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 2X8 GB RAM (LPDDR5 5500), 1TB SSD, BIOS version N3AET45W (1.10), Windows 11 Pro. System configuration for Ryzen ™7 PRO 6860Z: Lenovo ThinkPad Z13, 50 watt hour battery, 2x16GB LPDDR5 6400, Windows 11 Pro, 1TB SSD, AMD Radeon 680M graphics, GPU driver 30. 0, BIOS N3GET12WE (0.12). Actual battery life will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: product configuration and usage, software, operating conditions, wireless functionality, power management settings, screen brightness, and other factors. The maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and use.
